Hey all,
I have a question that may have an obvious answer, but it's eluding me, so here it is.

How do you wear a pedometer if you want to track your steps all day long? I'd like to monitor and get up to 12000 steps a day, and I usually wear jeans (with belt hooks) or slacks (with or without belt hooks). So where do you hook up the pedometer and with what, if any, attachment, so that it'll stay in place and the right position to track the steps all day long?
Thanks!!

My pedometer, an omron model hj112...comes with a clip on that you can attach to you belt, a pocket, or mine you can carry in your pocket, and or a purse..so if yours doesnt have any clip on it, you might have to figure out a way to attach it to your pants, or belt..mine also has a hole in the bottom of it thats got like a shoe lace thru it, that you can use that as an attachment also..i got mine at walmart..

just remember that nobody, I mean NOBODY, is looking out for your health, except for YOU !!!!!!

Yeah, mine does have a clip and I use it to attach to the top of the jeans or pants. However, it keeps sliding around when I walk, and I've read that the pedometer needs to be in one position (directly lined up above the knee), and moving around can record the wrong numbers..

Oooh, here's my chance to brag about my pedometer! I also, like loosinisfun, have an Omron pedometer. And I believe we both can attest to the accuracy from this brand.

The model I have has a different type of mechanism in it, that allows it to count steps even while upside down. It does come with the standard safety clip, and beltclip holder. That's how I wore mine the first few days. But then I got brave, and slipped it in my front pocket. As the day went up, it counted away! It didn't really seem to matter the orientation of the position at all, just as long as it was parallel to my thigh. They also claim that it will be accurate in a purse, but I've never tried that. I can truly say that yes, it counts upside down, can be placed in a front pocket and forgotten (but I still clip the safety clip and strap somewhere) and it's pretty accurate.

This model HJ-720ITC also comes with a USB cord and tracking software. It has a 42 day memory and you can upload all your data and see all these cool charts and set goals! It's a nifty gadget package in all, really. And I believe it's on sale!

Sorry, I just have to add my 2 cents - I also have the Omron (it is very accurate! - buy bulk batteries on ebay though, because they only last for a couple months). I usually wear it on my jeans waistband, but I have started even attaching it to my bra front (on the band in between the cups). I was worried about it still being accurate with all the extra motion - (wink, wink) but it is still measuring accurately and works great when I have to wear a dress or my workout pants that can't hold up the weight of the pedometer very well. Good luck!

I had to reply to this topic, even though it is a bit off topic, because my book "The Low GI Diet Revolution" [which advises to clip the pedometer to belt or waistband, btw] has a table of "how many steps are equivalent to fifteen minutes of certain activities [so that]you can reduce your daily step goal on days when you engage in [these activities]"

It cracks me up each time I read it:

moderate sexual activity - 500 steps
standing while watering lawn - 600 steps
vigorous sexual activity - 750 steps
washing dishes - 900 steps
standing while BBQing - 950 steps
standing while playing with the kids - 1,110 steps
horseback riding - 1,600 steps
washing the car - 1,850 steps

Seriously, who is washing their dishes more "enthusiastically" than making whoopie? When I try to picture someone watering their lawn more energetically than 'moderate' sexual activity, I'm rolling on the floor laughing (how many steps?!) Who made up this chart...and WHY???!!! Also, trying to picture someone wearing a pedometer cliped to their garter belt during 'vigorous sexual activity' cracks me up to no end.

The table is a page long, but it starts with 'moderate sexual activity' -- apparently no activity exists that uses FEWER steps.

LMAO Massiverally!! I was picturing all the stuff you wrote--painted such a vivid picture!! Yeah, I am wondering all that too--who went to the effort of calculating all this, and how? The garter-belt positioning of the pedometer was hilarious! Bra cups, garter belts, what next?? This is when the weight-loss stuff gets nit-pickingly obsessive and thank god we're not so into all this that we can't appreciate the craziness some of the stuff entails!!

Lol that's hilarious! I haven't gotten a pedometer yet...maybe I'll look into it. Off topic, but I have always wondered why having sex burned so FEW calories - and 750 steps seems like a lot of steps to me!

OMG ROFLMAO!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing Massiverally, that is sooooo funny! Indeed, who comes up with these lists? Does moderate sexual activity's low rating set it up to replace the excuse "not tonight dear, I have a headache" with "not tonight dear, I'd rather wash dishes and burn more calories"????? Bad Grin Too funny! Thanks for the laugh!
