Have been on almost every kind of diet and ran a foul of the same bad habit... getting on the scale all hours of the day and night. Its starting again and I need to nip it in the bud...So... i make a commitment to you all, my cyber-buddies, fellow travelers on this journey, that I will put away the scale until Friday when I weigh again.. I lost 4 pounds this week and instead of celebrating that I've had some success I am compulsively checking the scale... and of course it goes up and a little down .I fret when it goes up and don't believe it when it goes down. . been here done that before... NOT THIS TIME bye bye scale... Love the support and that you all are out there

Perfect plan to put away the scale. It is not your friend and does not tell the tale of effort and progress very well. Weight flexes up and down (in the range of 2 + or _ pounds) through the day for any combination of a bazillon reasons. So weighing multiple times a day.. even everyday.. really accomplishes nothing by sowing confusion. That being said, I do weigh daily.. at the same approximate time under the same approximate conditions. I do this to simply keep track of trends and use those emerging trends, tweak my plan in small way. The I do record new 'lows' as they show up but ignoring flexes up unless they continue over multiple days in a row. So ignore that scale and celebrate that 4lb loss. You should be damn proud of that. Weighing once a week is just fine and keep up the outstanding effort!

WriterandPainter, welcome!! I, too, have been guilty of weighing at all hours. I even bought a different scale, to get increments of 0.10 lb. Now, I have TWO scales. It's a sickness! I've been "back" since 05/06/18 and I'm using only one scale.
DECIDE, then: COMMIT! PLAN! EXECUTE! REST! REPEAT!

Being dependent on scales is so terrible. I understand you perfectly. Constantly after a meal to check how many pounds you have, it's not normal at all. Being obsessed with keeping your weight down is sad. Just don't accept yourself for who you are and humiliate yourself for nothing. In this case, you need to contact a specialist who will help you understand yourself https://fherehab.com/resources/signs-of-addiction/. You need to understand that there is no concept of beauty and that it's abstract. Everyone has their own beauty. It always has been and always will be. People make up patterns for themselves, and then they suffer from them.
