Do any of you have and like a scale that gives your fat to muscle ratio? Are they accurate and how do you like them. If I were to get one, which would you suggest?

I ended up with a digital set by Tanita, which is meant to be a decent brand. Along with weight, mine has readouts for body fat percentage, visceral fat, muscle mass, total body water, etc.

The home scales use bioelectric impedance analysis (BIA), which is great and all but I'm not sure the technology in home scales is that accurate. My body fat percentage swings massively from day to day, for example. It's handy to have but I don't really put any trust in the read outs to be honest - I take it as a very rough guide and look at the trends over time rather than the absolute figures.

If I were to purchase a new set of scales, I would personally just buy something digital just for weight.

I'm going to be getting a DEXA scan in a month to get a better handle on my body fat percentage. It's pretty exciting. A lot of places do packages so you can get them done at intervals as you lose weight. I'm just doing it at the end to figure out if I'm where I want to be in terms of body fat.

Thank you for giving me something to think about. I do have a digital scale so I may need to just stay with it. If you can, maybe share what you learn about your scan. All the best'

For what its worth the scales are not supposed to be precise, however for you if you use the same one every day, the relative changes are sueful and meaningful. lets say its off...you are 24% bf on scale and in reality 23%bf... having the scale go from 24% to 23.5% is a good inidcator of fat loss, and the reverse is tru, but was it actually 0.5%. possibly not. My opinion is when my numbers don't seem to make sense, I'll look at my water number it is usually higher or lower than normal, My numbers this morning were 22.6% bf, 56.6% water, 40,2% lean mass. no it does not add up to 100%, but if I feel like my bf should have gone down and didn't usually my water is off meaning I am holding water or dehydrated and the scale is confused. I like the numbers and don't put much faith in them as being abosultely accurate but as I change wieght I see my bf going down and my lean mass going up. started my diet at 24.5%bf and Satruday I was 21.9% body fat. I can see the differnce but are those numebrs really accurate? I don't care, as long as I see movement down. good luck.
