Questions About True Carb Counts and Acceptable Foods

Posted: 27 Aug 2007, 22:32 question is pretty simple...I eat onions with all my veggies...sauteed with mushrooms, or zuchini and squash, in soups, I use onions...not a very large amount...but in just about everything for the flavor...I went to and it has different carb counts for onions...are they allowed or are they not? How about carrots? If I just shred a small amount up to flavor my soup...I'm confused...I'm getting different answers...thanks

I am with you on this one. I think the flavour added by onions is worth the additional carbs. If I use a recipe I keep the onions in and halve the amount. Also there is lots of evidence that onions have lots of healthy properties (and they smell so good when you are cooking them). I dont think its good to cut them out and have a bland diet, you are more likely to stray if your food is boring and not tasty.

i think really you need to focus on your particular ACE. It is different for every one. try the onions for a week and monitor your weight and then try no onions for a week and monitor your weight. If it doesnt affect your weight loss then I wiould say its cool. You should pick up the Atkins for life book. Its very informative only that it doesnt give you a list of recipes that are good for the induction phase. Do you know of any?

Thanks so much...that's what I'm going to do, just monitor it...if I hit a plateau, then I'll slow way down on the onions...yes, I do cook alot and have many recipes for's been a struggle to get them published on here, but I did have one published's chicken cordon's less than 1 g carbs per serving...the carb count's messed up on here...I know what I eat though....and it's not 4 grams of carbs...
