When you get booted from this site, do you have to set up a whole new email account and site account to post for the few hours before you get booted again and everything you say gets deleted?

I sometimes wonder if Ollie isn't always Ollie and is sometimes someone who just needs to vent and takes his persona so they can anonymously troll.

Oliver, I find it interesting when you are giving information which you have researched, but these last 2 entries are just plain mean and I am offended! You are bullying individuals rather than trying to educate and assist others. Please tone it down and be kind!

Wow. Things have gotten nasty here lately. I think everyone needs to take a couple deep breaths and keep your fingers off the old keys for a while.

I have always enjoyed Ollie's view of the science of weight loss, as an engineer and - well, I can't say I'm a physicist but I have a Physics degree. I totally agree with Ollie's argument that the way to lose weight is to burn more calories than are taken in. This week I was very close to my RDI and, what a surprise, my weight didn't go down. That being said, I realize there may be more to the physiological aspects of the low carb, high fat diet side as well. I'm not smart enough on the subject to know. It seems plausible that some types of food are more readily used than others as carb intake decreases.

The bottom line is this: If one eats a diet that is low in carbs and high in fat and protein, one will not FEEL as hungry and will therefore generally speaking eat less. I had half an avocado for breakfast (so far). Let's say I consumed 300 calories - mostly fat. If I ate a piece of cake or a donut or even a "healthy" bowl of cereal - also 300 calories - I'm sure I'd be hungry again in less than an hour and would want to eat more.

If this HFLC diet gets me and other people to their weight goal faster and more reliably than other methods, then by all means I'm going to keep doing it. I absolutely HATE being hungry. I appreciate the science of it and I do want to learn more, but hey, whatever works, right?

So, do I consider my current diet as healthy as I like? Not really. I used to eat a lot more fruit, I mean tons of it. Now, not much at all. However, my diet is not all cheese burgers, bacon, sausage and salami, either. I get lots of GOOD fat from avocados, olives, olive oil, coconut oil, etc. The key is once one gets to their goal weight, I believe that the diet must be modified to a more health balanced diet for longevity.

So there you have it. Both points of view in one comment! I was going to say something political-esque now - like if only our leaders and people in general would see the other person's point of view, think how much better the world would be - BUT I'M NOT GONNA EVEN THINK ABOUT GOING THERE!

I was never a big avocado fan until recently. In fact I avoided them due to the high fat content. Just because I eat "good" fats doesn't mean I don't enjoy a juicy bacon cheeseburger or chili dog. All things in moderation... My wife on the other hand would tell me each hotdog is another nail in my coffin. I don't smoke, so you gotta get your nails somewhere.

One of my coworkers - my age, 56 - just had a triple bypass, due in no small part to his diet, I'm sure. He had a bit of a belly but not obese by any means. My BMI has never been over 30 probably. I have regular blood tests and check ups. I have no diabetes in my future. I have annual cardiology tests. So far no hotdog buildup has been detected.

What is life without an occasional greasy cheeseburger - one of my favorite things in the world? I live in Florida (aka paradise). I'm pretty sure it's a requirement here.

Okay, so most things I put in my mouth are killing me, while at the same time giving me life. In your opinion, what is the magic bullet? I'll not use that term, because it will just set you off... What is the optimal diet, in your opinion, Ollie?

As you can see from my avatar, I'm also a big fan of pizza... as well as humor. Perhaps latter offsets the ill effects of the former?

Okay, so coffin staples; not nails? We may be able to pry that baby open a few times later in life after all.
