I am a 52 year old male. Height 5'9" and I just finished Phase 1 of the HCG protocol. I went from 234 to 209 in 29 days and still have 2 days left of the 500 cal. diet. My question is this: I am being told by my HCG adviser to stay at 209 for at least 4 weeks to stabilize or reset my body. However I am 15 real pounds short of my goal and I still have a sufficient amount of body fat in my belly and love handles. I have read where people transition into Adkins or "The 4 hour body" diet after completing phase 1 in order to continue the weight loss. So I have been down the yoyo road before.....If I decide to continue the diet can I go into "maintenance" mode AFTER I have hit my goal weight? I have learned a lot on Phase 1, it has worked, but I am not where I need to be yet.....I simply hate to lose the momentum now that I am on a roll.

There is nothing magic about the the 30/45 day hcG diet timelines. Lots of voodoo beliefs and practices in the hcG community. I ran for months last year. Same results with and without hcG, btw. Diet is driving your losses, not hcG. Not that it matters...

All HCG does is keep your sugar levels from spiking. You can keep them from spiking by eating every 2 to 2 and half hours. You can buy HCG online and do it yourself.

That is always a red flag for me - "numerous studies". I know no two humans are the same exactly but there still should be only one study needed, followed by a clear chemical explanation as to how injecting these chemicals actually work.

What precisely are the chemicals doing when they enter your body? The person on the show never spoke to any of that - all she is doing is charting weight loss by patients on this method - a method that includes a dramatic restrictive limit of daily caloric intake. And again, some hate when I use the word duh, but duh.

Have they done this HCG thing with anyone while not limiting their calories? That would be interesting - for those looking for some magic remedy. But if there is no magic but rather some expensive questionable product that you are being asked to inject into your body - while eating such a low amount of food each day - what's the point?

The diet is quite effective. Its clearly the diet, not the hcg, driving the losses. Its not expensive and may have some placebo effect in terms of appetite control, which is one of the central claims proponents make. Google Dr. Simmons "Pounds and Inches" and look for a pdf. That's the guide authored by the diet doc that originally promoted this back in the 50s. All the groupies hang out on the forums at hcgdietinfo.com. The only measurable biochem effect that I could discern is that hcG boosts test in men, which is of benefit on such a severe cut.

This is nonsense. Have you done it? No. I have. You continue to slam the VLCD in spite of the fact that you have no direct experience. I have run a VLCD with good success, and have both data and pics. It is not intrinsically dangerous and does not require liver scans or any of that other BS you recommend.

For the record, I am not recommending that anyone else do this, but it can be very effective and executed safely.

I simply occasionally try to bring facts and relevant science into this domain which seems driven by faddish extremes, but whether you decide to read links or bother to research further is totally your decision

I never heard of that in a diet context. There is this weird yogi guy in cali who runs a pee drinking retreat weekend. I have my children to thank for the acquisition of that knowledge
