No mystery solution or magic pill. Track your calories and try to find a couple easy ways to reduce them + get more active if you like it or not. Just take the dog for a walk to start.

Reducing calories for myself when I started (my 55lb loss) was simply cutting out sugary drinks, not adding cheese to my sandwiches, and replacing mayo with mustard. That alone led to a loss of nearly 12lb because of the calorie deficit. Once that became habit I started making more changes, little changes: smaller portions, not keeping junk in the house, packing a lunch and PLANNING for those treats like your fav beer.

You can still enjoy your beer, and you should if you like it, but you need to make room for it earlier in the day. You know that tonight you're going to check out a new brew-pub or new release of a beer; fine, eat fewer calories (carbs esp) at lunch and/or skip a snack so that your total daily calories remain constant.

BTW, part of the reason you're a couch potato is because of energy levels which will increase over time as you lose weight and start replacing heavy junk food with more reasonable and healthier choices.

You have to work for it. There is no right answer here other than lay off the beer and learn to like activity. It sucks at first but once you start you will feel great.

I also like beer. Sorry no easy answers for you. I've lost 70 pounds and have been at goal for over 1.5 years and feel terrific. Find a healthy eating plan that works for you, quit the beer until you are at your goal weight then fit it into your calorie counts for the week. Also get off the couch and move even if it is just walking. Strength training is actually really good for your whole body including strengthening your bones so you aren't a cripple as you age. Beer has lots of empty calories to lose weight you need to eat nutrient dense calories and move that body. Not always easy--face your demons and get healthy.

Well if you change nothing, and drink a little less beer, maybe you will lose some weight from less calories. Think about it like this, the amount of effort you are willing to put in will have a direct effect on the amount of weight you can lose...

Another comment. Less alcohol usually means more energy to do other things. Alcohol is a depressant so it can rack havoc on the body and mind. From one who likes beer and wine. I feel so much better if I'm not drinking at all.

Tatmummy, actually no I haven't. I probably should as it would be good for me. I actually didn't drink while I was losing weight. I'm at goal and have been for more than a year. I do drink some now and then. This weekend was one as totally frustrated with issues working on my house and a tough week at work, I succumbed to some beer. No pubs handy to walk to... LOL

Try counting your calorie consumption. When you hit 2,000 in one day, stop eating and drinking. When you wake up, your calorie counter resets to zero. Repeat ever day. You will lose pounds, but you will likely have problems with your vital organs, soon. Or, you could decide to have only 1 beer a day and then only consume vegetables, fruit and lean protein up to 2,000 calories a day. This plan will result in weight loss and your vital organs should be in good shape. On the bright side, you won't have to get off the couch much more than going into the kitchen!! Smile
