Love or Obligation

About three weeks ago at a company meeting, our executive director told us to think about why we do what we do. What motivates us daily, is it love or obligation. I have found that approaching this with the same mentality is proving to be a success (14 pounds in 14 days) I just want to challenge you to do this because you love who you are and who you will be as opposed to doing this because you have to. I pretty much came to the same conclusion around that time. I was really hard on myself and it made me hate the 10 or so pounds extra I was carrying. I'm taking care of myself now because I want to and not because I feel I have to or I won't be successful in life. I'm still following SB but I'm not so concerned with whether or not I lose any more weight. I'm just being aware of what I put into my body to help feed my mind and soul. Sure, I'd like to still go down the 10 lbs but I'm not going to beat myself up about it like before.
My biggest hope for those out there who wish to lose weight is that you need to get to the point where you love putting good food into your body. It shouldn't be a chore because you're worth taking the time. And when you have a dessert, really savour it, don't just eat it quickly and guiltily, hoping that it won't count that way. Food should make you happy, not miserable.

This is right on! I'm constantly reminding my inner voice that this is not a diet but a whole new reality... and that I deserve it. I also consciously ignore the whining inner child who complains about what I can't have; the adult in me is celebrating what I am becoming (the healthy, slimmer, content person that has been lurking inside, alone in the dark)! Laughing So, attitude (and acceptance) is half the battle. (Planning is the other half!) As my husband noted, we're eating well! It's not about the food--it's all the baggage in our heads that will make or break the run for the goal. It's not a matter of perseverence, because it is reality. It's retraining myself to be happy with the new status quo. And the delight that when I reach my goal, I will never again have any more than 5 lbs to lose (a secret my always very slim and sexy 50-year-old sister-in-law taught me). Good luck everyone!
