And really, we're not all advised to do that-- it's a common myth though. Drink when you're thirsty.

Yeah, my doctor told me that 64 oz thing is like an urban legend and that I should drink water instead of other liquids when I was thirsty and I would get the water my body needed. She also said, that too much water could cause problems with the body's balance of important nutrients.

Goal!

I try to think of exercise like doing the dishes or laundry; I might not necessarily look forward to doing it, but it is necessary.

Yes!!! the 'drink 8 oz of water 8 times a day'' was just something someone pulled out of a hat and said 'this sounds good!' Absolutely no scientific backing at all

It depends on how much you move, work out, sweat, where you live... hot climate /cold, etc etc... so drink water to your need not to an obtuse rule.

There have been a few incidents of people drinking too much and flushing the tryglicerides out of their kidneys and dying...but these are extreme cases...http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-511475/Man-35-drank-death-consuming-water.html

Drinking water helps you to feel 'full' so you don't eat as much. Making sure the water is COLD also gives a small boost to your metabolism. I don't believe you have to drink 64 oz per day, just drink to keep yourself hydrated, as needed.

The best way to know you're drinking enough (or not enough) is the color of your urine. Pale is good, dark means not enough water, colorless means too much water. The amount you need varies quite a bit - when I'm not active, 64 oz is more than I need, but if I do a good workout, it's nowhere near enough!

My doctor also mentioned this.

Drinking water is good and you should never get dehydrated. Many times, when I feel tired and down, it's the water and when I drink some water I come back to life. But there is no set amount for that. An eight glasses is blatantly overkill.

Common sense rules!Smile

Believe the 8 glasses amount took into account the water in the food as well. We're told to drink water to flush out toxins, I think good trace elements are being flushed out too.

Good shout Hoser, drink when you're thirsty!
Focus on how far you've come - as this is Reality!

Oh yeah, another thing I learned from the ol' doc: Many times when we think we are hungry, but can't think of what it is we want to eat, we are really thirsty. Try drinking water first.

Goal!

I try to think of exercise like doing the dishes or laundry; I might not necessarily look forward to doing it, but it is necessary.
