Most of us have been overweight all of our lives.

If you could go back in time and meet yourself, what advice would you give yourself regarding, weight and life in general?

This is not necessarily diet talk, but it's just 'for the fun of it' and to get us thinking.

Have a great day!

I would tell myself that being 63 kg / 139 LBS is not fat! Than related I would tell me not to starve myself. Also not to panic because of school, I always got so scared before a test even though I studied for it. And when I was 14 I would have told myself that the 21 year old guy is definitely too old for me. Looking back he was probably a pedophile. Ah, kids can be stupid.

I would tell my 16-yr old scrawny self to get into the gym and never stop exercising. In junior high and high school, I was always playing basketball at the town park, so I got plenty of exercise. But, somewhere along the way, I stopped. I would tell my teenage hard-headed self to listen to the adults (parents, included)...some are smarter than you think and are only looking to keep you from making stupid mistakes. I would tell myself to get my head out of my ass and apply my brain in school...it really pays off in the future. But, as they say, "Live and learn..."

I'd go back and tell myself that it will be a long, hard road but life will get better. I'd tell myself to continue writing no matter how much or how little support I got. I'd encourage myself to embrace my own writer's voice and stop comparing myself and my work to everybody else. I'd encourage myself to start tracking my food because I didn't eat nearly enough and it's done some serious damage to my metabolism. I was suffering from chronic depression at the time and had no appetite what-so-ever.

If I could go back ,I would say been there ,done that ,don't go there.
First I would love myself and take care of me.
I would eat right ,be active and not ever start smoking;
Most of all I would live my bucket list all the time. Then I would be happy and not use food as a crush.

I would try to tell myself to respect myself more, respect my body and take responsibility for my own health and well being..

Express your feelings no matter how uncomfortable instead of stuffing them down with food.

There but for the Grace of God go I.

Don't stop believin'.... Hold on to that feelin'....

Stay in school, get a profession, get to the gym and walk for your life you will live long and prosper and with a little luck you will still have your health when you retire...and you should have said yes to the invitation when you were 14...hindsight is 20/20!

Start lifting. Warm up properly. Enlist. Try to eat healthy but realize, it's not what you eat but the total calories that determine weight gain/loss.
Consume whatever foods you prefer, whenever you prefer to consume them, while ensuring nutrient sufficiency and meeting caloric goals.

Do not self-limit yourself because in most cases, you should have taken the step that you were afraid of taking.

Wonderful question. I would tell myself to love thyself more, not care what others think.. I would try to convince thyself to be kinder to me...I would also tell thyself what a great job they had done so far... I would also tell thyself to eat no processed foods, get away from sugars,Keeping staying active and fit. And one day Menopause is going to bite you in the butt be prepared for it.

I would tell myself don't talk yourself out of your dreams just because you think you won't make money doing it. Also to learn to love yourself before trying to love anyone else. Oh, and don't blink because you will miss it all.

I would tell myself to Relax, not to take things so seriously and not to sweat the small stuff. I would tell myself to stop requiring validation from others and not put anyone on a pedestal. I would tell myself to check if my words and my actions are in concordance with the desired result. I would tell myself that life is short, don't waste time and make the moments count to get to your goal. I would tell myself to take a step back and look at what I'm doing, and figure out what's important. I would tell myself to look for health and weight loss will be a derivative of that. I would tell myself to get out of my head and live more in my body. Unfortunately, it took one year of therapy to get on track to 'evolve', and this at an older age.

These are all great answers. If only "We knew then what we know now" right? I would say stay active! Follow your dreams & conquer your fears. Always keep moving and take care of your body inside & out, its the only one you will have.

I would tell myself to question everything. Of all the diets I've been on, have they actually been proved without a doubt that they (scientists, doctors, nutritionist) were acting/advising us correctly? When those 'diets' fail to work, then it's not my fault, and its the diet that's at fault.

I've got 60 years behind me, and have seen diet advice completely reverse! Literally millions have followed bad advice in the belief they were eating healthily. How many people have made things (our body fat) worse for themselves?

One size (diet) does not fit all. Listen to your body, work with it, respect it, and love it.
Focus on how far you've come - as this is Reality!

Focusing on how far you have to go is only expectation!

Well said nb girl.... I too have been involved in the nutritional world since the 70's and have been guilty of getting caught up in what the so called 'experts' say....

I've gone back to basic common sense. Eat natural real foods, eat local, consume only healthy natural meat sources and definitely non GMO crap.

The government and the fda and the food manufacturers only care about one thing $$$$$ not our health or well being and as long as they keep the population poisoned then the medical and big drug co's stay rich too... it's a sad state but if you take control of your own life then you don't have to fall into their propoganda.

Weight loss
To other people, I say, "Now, let's discuss your body composition." No one seems to like that, but it shuts them up real quick.
