Okay gals, give me some tips on managing hormones during that time of the month and not snacking in the evenings. I hate hormones, I am so hungry all of a sudden. Crying or Very sad

I have yet to find something to shut the hormones down (short of a hysterectomy or a sex change) but I have lost 13 lbs. since end of December (with two periods in January and one in February. In that time I have just given in for a few days. Prepared for it before hand and then made up for it after. I will admit that this last time it was difficult to get back on the wagon, so to speak, but I did. It just set me back a week. Hopefully there will be something a little more effective posted by someone with more experience!

My cravings always sucks durring my period, I just try and go with what my body wants but do it reasonably, instead of a big bowl of ice cream I eat a small amout. It helps me and I can still get what I am wanting. When I try and ignore or fight them they just get worse.

My hormones make me want to eat more too. I've come to think that there is probably a physiological reason for it- so guess what? I just eat more when I feel like that! But I don't eat candy, cake or chips, usually just extra fruit. My particular caloric range is 1200-1500. When I feel like that, I let it be 1500 and I make up for it the next week by sticking to the lower numbers.

Also, exercise does help relieve some of the hormonal wackiness that accompanies that time of month.

I have the same issue and this month I prepared in advance and bought skinny cow ice cream sandwiches and weight watcher bars to munch on instead of chocolate. It seems to have helped me so far, as I can eat us out of house and home during this time!

I hate that time too, and this is the week for me.. I agree with k8yk that exercise helps (especially with my moods) but I give in too, only with healthy stuff, veggies, fruit, yogurts. It's just nice to see I'm not the only one that fights this, that in itself kinda helps Smile

I eat dark baker's semi-sweet organic chocolate grated over fresh (or frozen) berries from my garden with a bit of unsweetened whipcream and a sprinkle of coarse salt. It sounds like a bizzar concoction, but it satifies my desire for salty, sweet, and creamy.

I also cook rhubarb, strawberries, and vanilla pudding together. It has lots of iron and calcium which are depleted making new lining.

Also dill pickles and thin pretzel chips with guacomole.

And I banish cookies from my house for a few days otherwise I eat them all!!

Yeah dudes the Skinny Cow ice cream sandwiches with no sugar added. Taste great. Perfect evening snack or whenever. I like it in evening. Gotta watch the new Project Runway this weekend and it will be great with a Skinny COw!

oh how i love aunt flo
im also one who could eat the house its self during that time of the month. i find its better for me if i give in a little to whatever im craving but i try not to keep those things in the house b/c its like my body just takes over and i cant help but eat the entire package of whatever im craving(SWEETs) usually though if i just have a little and exercise its enough to satisfy the cravings without completely ruining all the progress ive made

I swear by SmartOnes signature sundaes when I am craving an indulgence. 150 calories for chocolate, ice cream, and peanut butter or cookie dough (depending on which flavor I'm craving)! I really crave salty things when it's that time of the month, though...any suggestions for a great salty snack?

salty, buttery popcorn. I have been told 2 cups of movie popcorn is 200 calories and weigh in the fiber - probably not a bad choice. Smile

I crave the salty too and do the air popped popcorn with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter on it (I don't care for the spray on the popcorn so use the tub with canola oil or light) I add my own salt too. I can't eat popcorn without the butter Smile

Mmm, sounds delicious! Unfortunately, if I eat more than 2 or 3 pieces of popcorn, I get sick to my stomach. I have no idea why (it's definitely not that I don't loooove the taste!), but it's always been a problem for me. I did recently discover mini babybel light cheeses -- they are filling and definitely salty. I'd love some more ideas, though!

Cigar pretzels (the fat stick ones). I allow myself 2 sticks in a sitting and suck on them instead of chewing them up. They will can last quite a while that way.

I do give in to my Cadbury's Dairy Milk demons during this time. Again I just limit it. One row or square, depending on the style of the bar and how well I did on my other meals. Then suck on it like a gobstopper rather than eating it.

I rely on low fat popcorn and red vines to get me through the evenings that week with minimal damage. Also, try to sip some hot tea before bed... fills you up, relaxes you, and some help with cramps (I like peppermint tea for tummy aches).
