I have serious trouble eating breakfast and i am falling short on calories each day and having to eat HEAPS of other foods to make it up.

I haven't purposely made myself breakfast in YEARS..

I'm looking for any tips on a light breakfast that won't feel too heavy in my stomach as i tend to get nauseous when eating cereals and milk first thing after waking.

Any ideas?

I used to be like you, and coffee was all I had for breakfast everyday. I started WW for the first time about 6 years ago, and forced myself to start eating breakfast. Now it is just a habit because I know it is what I need to do. Some of the things I eat: yogurt and a banana or berries/2 slices of toast/egg beater omelet/oatmeal/1 C cereal and milk.

You could try cereal/protien bars. I like the Luna bars the taste good and they have a lot of different flavors you can choose from. You could also try eating some fruit, like an apple, banana or grapefruit just to get something in your stomach. Yogurt is also quick and easy (you can even make it a parfait by adding some furit and granola). Oatmeal is always good and fills me up. Well I hope that helps some. I think the main thing would be to just get yourself used to eating something in the morning and then when your used to it you can slowly try to eat a little more.

thanks! I bought some banana's today so will try one for breakfast tomorrow... fingers crossed i can stomach it.

I guess i'll have to work myself up to a bigger breakfast slowly..

I just seem to have trouble finding low fat higher calorie foods during the day..

I used to eat maybe once a day and since starting i feel like i haven't stopped eating in 3days and i still don't hit close to 1500 calories a day.

I think i might be too careful with what i eat but i need to be quite disciplined otherwise i'll pack it in and not bother!

LOL - Lets see how we go tomorrow. Fingers crossed...

I used to never eat breakfast, and now I depend on it. I started by mixing half a serving of yogurt, half or less a serving of cereal, and some fresh fruit together. It was small, but it was packed with good stuff. Now, I tend to make smoothies for breakfast... it's easier for me to drink it than eat it, leaves me feeling better, and definitely gives me the energy I need for the entire morning.

I hated breakfast too, but now I'm used to having it. I have plain greek yogurt with fresh fruit and grape nuts cereal. mmmmm, I actually look forward to it.
Oh, and a huge unsweetened iced coffee from Starbucks. I'm sorry, I've given up all my other vices- smoking, overeating, alcohol... I'm entitled to ONE and I pick Starbucks!!!

I refuse to give up my coffee as well! I've cut back on smoking where i might only have 1 or 2 a day which is going really well.

I never used to drink alocohol often at all anyway but i find now i have no desire for it and it just leaves me feeling icky.

I had a banana today...that was the most i could stomach..and my coffee of course Smile

But i use non-fat milk and only 1 sugar so i think i'm slowly breaking all habits which i think is my main problem.

But to be honest...today i am STARVING..i feel like i could eat anything and everything in sight.

Help?

I actually find I get more hungry during the day if I eat breakfast. My usual routine sets me up so that when I'm done with my exercising and morning routine, lunch is the first meal. If I have anything for breakfast, it's a couple eggs, for the protein, after exercising, assuming I have exercised earlier in the day. And I prefer drinking hot tea with milk.

i have no intention of giving up my coffee, ever. so i made slow gradual steps down... from light cream all the way down to almond milk. (although this week, with blizzard number 3, i'm back to skim milk because i can't get to a grocery store) there is no reason, imo, to give up anything you love. (yes, i realize that depends what "diet" you're following... but i'm NOT dieting, so i'm gonna say it... hahahahahaha! i had pizza, hotwings, and chocolate cake for dinner last night... because i saved up all week so i could... and i still lost more than half a pound! muhahahah!)

I usually have a pretty light breakfast but not first thing when I wake up because I too feel nauseous if I eat right away. Usually around 9:30 or 10am I'll eat 2 scrambled eggs with 2 wedges of Laughing Cow Light cheese and maybe a couple crackers (185 calories w/o crackers). Nothing heavy and it helps me get through my mid morning stomach grumbling...and then lunch isn't far away.

You feel more hungry after eating breakfast because your body has starved all night while sleeping, and when you do eat breakfast it kick-starts your metabolism (fatburning) and quickly rushes those nutrients to your body. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and by avoiding it you cause your body to eat away at muscle since it is a more efficient source of energy. Always eat breakfast, and for those who say they can't handle a large breakfast should invest in some high quality whey protein shakes to drink. Not eating in the morning and waiting until noon will only hinder your weightloss!

That's right, busasniper. Eating breakfast gets your metabolism going right away, which means you're burning more calories, which means you'll lose more weight Smile
I also feel hungry before lunch if I eat breakfast. If I don't I don't feel hungry- but that is NOT a good thing. If you feel hungry, you might incorporate a mid-morning snack, like a piece of fruit, to keep the hunger at bay until lunch.

I'm trying to eat more protein, so I'm thinking about keeping protein shakes around (the ones they sell in supermarkets, they aren't so gross) just in case I have to grab and run. They keep me pretty full for a while, which is good, because I don't feel like snacking!

I love breakfast, I used to only eat it on the weekends or when I had a day off. My fiancee makes breakfast now so I have gotten used to eating it. We eat egg about 5 times a week, either scrambles or fried, I find that I feel much better threw the day if I eat breakfast.

I'm addicted to my two hardboiled eggs for breakfast. Boiled while I'm in the shower, left to cool in cold water while I'm dressing, and eaten at work at around 10am. It's the only breakfast I can face Wink

Wow. I thought I was the only one that got ravenous at noon if I ate breakfast. If I skipped breakfast (which I usually did), I could go until 10:00 at night before I needed to eat.

I still don't particularly care for breakfast, but I see it as necessary to keep my metabolism in check. My history with losing weight confirmed for me that the body does go into starvation mode and stores every calorie it can get its hands on if there is not enough calories spread out throughout the day.

I like Total cereal because it has lots of vitamins and tastes like small pieces of tree bark. Like I said, I don't really care for breakfast, but I make sure I eat every day (unless I sleep in until lunch).

hard boiled eggs are a good suggestion, or a small bit of fruit and/or juice.

Something else to look at if you're getting hungrier AFTER eating breakfast is what your breakfast includes. Many breakfast foods are pretty carb heavy, with little or no protein and fat. If for instance you had two pieces of whole grain toast with spray butter or sugar-free jam plus a banana for breakfast, that's almost all carbs (albeit healthy carbs) that won't be very filling for very long. You need to add some protein and fat to make your breakfast keep you fuller for a longer period of time. Cereals, breads, bananas, oatmeals.. all mostly carbs. Add an egg, reduced fat peanut butter, milk, cheese, even canadian bacon to your breakfast and it should keep you more satisfied. I love to have an egg sandwich made with a whole grain high-fiber english muffin (100 cal) with 1 one egg (70 cal), and 1 slice 2% cheese (50 Cal), along with some fruit like a small banana or sliced strawberries or pineapple (about 80 cals worth) for breakfast. It ends up being a 300 calorie breakfast that includes fiber, protein, fat, calcium, etc. and really keeps me feeling full.

Today I had breakfast late, too busy sorting the kids out before school and then side tracked after dropping them off. I had crumpets and honey at 10am. By 11:15 I felt hunger pains - I never get them!! Clock watched till 12 LOL.....1 peanut butter on toast sandwich later and I felt fine - but what was that about?

Normally I eat quite soon after waking - I don`t necessarily enjoy it but I know that I need the fuel to keep me going - I get cranky and clumsy otherwise Wink Tomorrow I will make time!!!!!!
