For those of you who walk for exercise, how many miles do you get in per week?

I'm very heavy and have a back problem, so I have to go fairly slow and not too much at a time, but I've been getting in 3 miles a week. I'm wondering what I should set my goal at.

I was using walking as my main exercise and I was doing 3 miles a day every day, but have since switched it up and am now doing some cardio and walking for 1.5 miles a day. I think you should set a goal of how far you want to go by the end of the week and challenge yourself to make it. The next week up the goal some and keep challenging yourself. You got this!!

My husband is disabled and has problems walking. When he started walking it was slow down the drive and back, then down the block and back. We would keep adding a little more each week and we based it on how he was feeling. He never was fast but he got up to 4 miles a day before he got sick again. Set yourself small goals, when you reach the goal add a little more. It will take a little time but you can reach those goals!

I just guess. I make a custom entry. But I am guessing the vigorous walk would work (4km/h) and a separate entry for the cool down and warm up. I love to walk with Leslie. Has come in handy in this cold

I prefer to go for a walk in the early morning. Because early morning time is best for walking exercise and other peaceful environmental situation makes our mind cool and calm. It helps to store fresh oxygen in our body and also boost up the blood circulation very well. For the often you move, you can be able to easily reduce one or more pound per week without investing too much time at the gym and without following any special food diet.

"Although the 10,000 step daily goal is not universally appropriate for all ages and levels of physical function, it is considered “a reasonable target for healthy adults,” according to a 2011 research review published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity."

Depending on stride length and speed, 10,000 steps approaches 5 miles. 10k approximates 4.5 for me so I shoot for 11k, but am satisfied with 10. Some days are easier than others. A weekend summer day is easy if I am mowing the lawn. I'll approach 20K or more on those days. OTOH, A winter day is harder due to weather.

During the work week, I start off with about 2K before I get to my office, then I try and get 5K before lunch. A nice 20 minute stroll around at lunch and I can be at 8-10k by the time I go home. 2K is a breeze in the evening, chasing after my kids.

Exercise vs calories
exercise helps you burn calories, but it does not control your calorie intake.
