"Although the 10,000 step daily goal is not universally appropriate for all ages and levels of physical function, it is considered “a reasonable target for healthy adults,” according to a 2011 research review published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity."Depending on stride length and speed, 10,000 steps approaches 5 miles. 10k approximates 4.5 for me so I shoot for 11k, but am satisfied with 10. Some days are easier than others. A weekend summer day is easy if I am mowing the lawn. I'll approach 20K or more on those days. OTOH, A winter day is harder due to weather.
During the work week, I start off with about 2K before I get to my office, then I try and get 5K before lunch. A nice 20 minute stroll around at lunch and I can be at 8-10k by the time I go home. 2K is a breeze in the evening, chasing after my kids.
