My challenge with sugar??

I have read several books on sugar addiction because if I consume even a small amount of added sugar in chocolate or baked goods for example (thankfully I don't like soda or that would be a problem as well), I want more. I know it affects my blood sugar, causes inflammation and is at the root of my weight gains so rationally I know I shouldn't be having it, but this post is not about my ability to be rational. I can stop drinking alcohol (fermented sugar) for weeks at a time and eat natural occurring sugars in fruit and vegetables, but eventually the stuff creeps back into my diet and I lose the battle. I've tried low carb plans which work for a while but inevitability the same thing happens.

Is anyone else having the same issue? Any recommendations??

I don't know if it has anything to do with your problem, but in my own sugar problems, I find that if I am dehydrated in the least little bit, I will start craving sweets. Just sitting around at work, and all of a sudden, I will be thinking about something sweet. Or at the grocery store, I will find myself grabbing a candy bar to throw in the cart, without even stopping to think about it first.

I find that "which knuckling" anything is really hard. I don't say no to anything I really want, I just fit it into my balanced Macro Nutrient Ratios and Calorie count. If I want something sweet, I have some and I also add some other balanced food choices to kill the cravings. When I eat what my body needs and wants, I don't really lose control... and I've done that for decades. I could never tell myself no to food that I want. If I want cake, I have it and make my calories and macros balance for the day in another way. I also find that protein helps make me feel more satiated and crave less. This isn't specific advice to you but I hope it helps.

By sugar you mean processed fat+carbs. Not sugar alone.
Consume whatever foods you prefer, whenever you prefer to consume them, while ensuring nutrient sufficiency and meeting caloric goals.
