I am following Dr Michael Mosley's 'Fast 800' plan along with the 12:12 fasting (i.e. eating only between 8am and 8pm and 'fasting' in between except for black tea/coffee, water). The suggested plan is also close to the Mediterranean Diet, in that it is low-carb and has plenty of good fats from olive oil, nuts, avocado, cheese etc. The calorie content needs to be no more than 800cal a day. Green leafy vegetables don't have to be counted in the 800cal, so easy to pad out a satisfying meal. As with most folk, the first three days were a tad trying, but after that once ketosis kicks in, hunger pangs are almost completely diminished, making it a very easy plan to follow. I use this page to track my calories, carbs and protein each day. It's tricky at first to get the balance right, but easy once you get the hang of it. I lost 4.2kg the first week, and 2.3 the second, a total of 6.5kg (14.3lbs) in just 14 days. This plan was suggested by my own doctor because of the sound research behind Dr Mosley's book. I'd been watching his TV documentaries for years now, and have always been impressed with his willing to try everything he preaches himself. Anyway, I know ketosis is the secret to my own weight loss, having lost 30kg (66lbs) in just three months about ten years ago, but back then I followed Atkins strictly which doesn't count calories, so easy to slip back and add too many carbs which then just packs the weight back on. Atkins was definitely onto something, but research has moved on, as it will no doubt again, and in the meantime this is working for me.

Hi Winning56, Good on you for giving it a go and finding something that works for you. My husband and I did this a few years ago as well when it was called the 8 week blood sugar diet. we dropped the dropped the weight fairly quickly. AFter the 8 weeks you are supposed to stick to the principles but up the calories. We added too many calories clearly cos here I am again. So I'm back using the principles of the 800 diet but tracking my food on here and trying to stay around 1200. All the best with it though - do what makes your body feel good Smile If you can get hold of his recipe books they have some great recipe ideas. I still have mine and the basil chicken is still a fave Smile

Hi kit164....many thanks. I'm in week 5 now and have lost 11.2kg as of this morning. I believe that the 'time restricted eating' is the key for me. I feel good doing this and nowhere near as difficult as I feared. I have already downloaded the recipe books, plus I signed up to the Fast 800 12 week program online as well, where there's recipes and new things to learn each week. I only joined this site to record my food and keep track of the calories, carbs and protein.....and hopefully see some support.

spacey 48.....you're just behaving like a troll. I've never even touched whatever 'coolade' is, so your comment is misinformed at best, dumb at worst. I see you've been spreading your vitriol around on this site's forums for over three years now, and how you once even critiqued and called out someone for a simple spelling mistake....so petty. Try being a little kinder, just for a change. Everyone here is trying to do their best to lose weight and good luck to you if you've managed to do it. Just seeing all the anger in your many, many posts makes me think you must be a very unhappy person who has issues more than just weight. Now that you've been so very successful in regaining your body health, perhaps it's time to work on your attitude.
