My challenge with sugar

I have read several books on sugar addiction because if I consume even a small amount of added sugar in chocolate or baked goods for example (thankfully I don't like soda or that would be a problem as well), I want more. I know it affects my blood sugar, causes inflammation and is at the root of my weight gains so rationally I know I shouldn't be having it, but this post is not about my ability to be rational. I can stop drinking alcohol (fermented sugar) for weeks at a time and eat natural occurring sugars in fruit and vegetables, but eventually the stuff creeps back into my diet and I lose the battle. I've tried low carb plans which work for a while but inevitability the same thing happens.

Is anyone else having the same issue? Any recommendations?

Wouldn't the problem be the fat as well or are you eating straight table sugar? If not, I doubt you're addicted to sugar.
Consume whatever foods you prefer, whenever you prefer to consume them, while ensuring nutrient sufficiency and meeting caloric goals.

Except keep doing course corrections I do not know. I do not eat much sugar. If some makes you want more maybe avoid it totally for awhile and see. And do not be too hard on yourself.

My nutritionist said that eating too much fruit is just as bad as having the sugar. Maybe try cutting back on the fruit...

Yes, sugar addiction is a real thing. I have it just like you. Low carb diets work great for me because I love meat and salad. But one bite of a sugar laden cookie or cake and I'm off again. I sneak sweets in the house and hide them till my husband goes to sleep. It's terrible but it's like being an alcoholic you crave it. I can't even eat most fruits because of the sugar content so stick to strawberries and blueberries for my morning shakes. So this is day two of my sugar free challenge. When I first start I allow my self to eat things I normally wouldn't on my carb diet (such as nuts and chips) for a few days to try to cope without the sugar. If I can make it a week then I will tighten up on my low carb diet. (please tell my husband not to make that cheesecake he wants). So good luck and I'm with you just do it 1 day at a time. Good luck.

BettyJoy - thanks for the validation! Sometimes I blame my lack of willpower but it's more complicated than that. Funny thing is, when I don't eat the stuff, I feel so much clearer in the head and am physically rewarded because my inflammation goes away. It seems like the choice should be an easy one for me. Just don't eat it! But life happens. I celebrated my birthday for several days last week and am paying for it big time now. Out for dinner, birthday cakes, champagne... so easy to allow the celebration to continue.

When I started the no added sugar diet over two months ago, I began intermittent fasting. Only water when I get up, then a workout, protein shake at 11am, late lunch, dinner over by 7pm. I can't start with a carb laden bfast -that sets me up for failure. That program seems to keep most of my cravings at bay. Although I am not diabetic, I think it has to do with the spikes I get from sugar ( I want more when my blood sugar takes a dive). Trying to figure it out. Agree on the one day at a time advise!

So gummi bears, soda, pure cane sugar, etc? No? Oh, cookies and cheesecake? So it's the hyper-palatable foods high in sugar and fat? So it isn't just the sugar? So stay away from foods that are calorie dense which are high in both macros, sugar and fat. I don't see anyone binging on fruit..

Fruit is amazing, high in fiber and vitamins, and can be a great low-calorie snack between meals.
