So I am working on a very restricted caloric diet (well, for me at least)I'm trying to stay under 1200 calories a day while still maintaining enough energy to put in some good work at the gym. My problem is that I have found myself using more artificial sweetners like drinking Diet Cherry Coke once in awhile...some people are so against artificial sweetners. I just want to know/learn different perspectives so PLEASE SHARE YOUR OPINIONSmile

No.
They just taste disgusting to me. But even if they didn't, they're really bad for your health. Unless you have diabetes, there's no reason why you just cant use sugar.

I'm also on a restricted RDI, I started at 1200 and am now around 1400, and I've never stopped ingesting regular sugar.

I don't like extremely sugary things so for anything I make- if I have to follow a recipe I either do not add any (for savory stuff) or cut it in at least half (sweets and cakes)

I also cut it completely from beverages.

Don't be scared of sugar. You can balance it and use portion control. Log it, and you'll be alright.

Good luck!

I do use them, even though my brain tells me they are bad for me. I also try to mostly eat Paleo, and my brain tells me artificial sweeteners are definitely NOT Paleo... sigh. 🤷‍♀️ But I just feel so bad about the calories/carbs in "real" sugar and even the calories/carbs in things like honey and maple syrup (which are more Paleo than cane sugar.) Heck I even feel bad about the calories and carbs in fruit! But I still like things to taste sweet and sometimes it makes a HUGE difference to just put a packet of Splenda in there. Idk, idk... I guess I look at them as the lesser of two evils; the one evil being that it's a chemical and not Paleo, and the other evil being empty calories and carbs. Ideally, I wouldn't have either one, though.
Highest weight 320 pounds (BMI 47.3) in 2015. Began eating Paleo and have lost over 165 pounds, with about 10 more to go. Paleo for life!

They are key. Flavored water goes down a lot better than plain and I love Coke Zero.

They are OK as long as you limit your intake to 3 servings a day. (a 12-oz diet drink is 2 servings).
People get into trouble because they go on diets and then start drinking tons of crystal light. That can definitely hinder weight loss and causes health problems in some people.

But why? You make claims but never back them up with facts. If you account for the small number of calories in Crystal Light it will not hinder fat loss.
