Can someone tell me if I should omit avocados out of my diet? I love eating them. But they have a lot of fat in them. I just looked over Mondays food log, Calorie Breakdown:

Carbohydrate (43%)

Fat (48%)

Protein (9%)

This was for 366 calories for the entire day!

Wondering if I should just stop eating avocados.

Thanks. I'm just addicted to eating avocados with everything. I'll try to lower my consumption of them.

Lower the carb, keep the avocado because its a healthy fat, and up your protein try 70% fat 25% protein and 5% carb. You WILL see results. Calories are way too low for daily functions of the body. Have someone calculate your macros if its for weight loss.

You are 100% correct. My mother's doctor has her eat these as a method of gaining weight. She has COPD and struggles to stay at 87 lbs.

They are all fat. Should be for a feast day only like Thanksgiving. My vegan docs say avoid them completely too. Dr. John McDougall says and I quote: "the fat you eat is the fat your wear."

I avoid completely all "free oils", fats that are added to food, i.e. olive, soybean, cottonseed, etc and all those oils are listed in the ingredients...I avoid completely processed food: breads, chips, snacks, cookies, frozen stuff that is a chemical stew, read the ingredients..what the hell is some of that stuff anyway.. etc. ... and high fat foods like avocadoes. I try to eat always food that have just one word: like broccoli, potatoes, kale, air popped pop corn, etc. No additives. Simple, easy, cheap.

@Bookie7....It seems that you are not doing low carb so I will not bother you with how LCHF works or how to calculate net carbs versus carbs. There are, in fact, what are called healthy fats. Those include avocados as well as coconut oil and others. If you are doing low fat and/or low calorie, obviously you will need to limit your consumption according to the macros you have set for yourself. However, there are health benefits to eating them contrary to what some will tell you. **My two cents**

Caloric surplus makes people fat the likes of which dietary fat is a major contributing problem. In addition, dietary fat is more likely to be stored as fat in caloric surplus.

With that said, there is a minimal safe level of dietary fat that our body requires. If you can hit your caloric targets with the proper ratios for fat, then you're good. In particular, avocados are among the perfect healthy fat for this.

But that doesn't mean eat as many as you want. For many people, one avocado represents 50% of their entire daily fat requirement. Don't go nuts.

I have to agree with the goodness of avocado - I eat a whole one per day. I continue to lose fat and build muscle. It is all relative. Balance is key. May I suggest you read a great book titled "Grain Brain"? The neurologist Perlmutter explains how healthy fats work in the body and how they support brain activity better than any carbohydrates.

Unless in a calorie deficit, right Phil? Fat is more easily converted to fat than carbs are. But if you're in a deficit, it doesn't matter.
Consume whatever foods you prefer, whenever you prefer to consume them, while ensuring nutrient sufficiency and meeting caloric goals.

what are the best calorie foods you personally find?
Exercising would be best for muscle mass combined with eating protein rich food. What every you like to eat, I suppose
