My mom used to know a lady that SWORE by drinking red wine. She said that she used to be about 275lbs, she started drinking one glass of red wine a day and the weight just fell off.

I know everybody is different but has this been proven? Does RW (or wine in general) aid in weight loss?

I would like to try this for myself but my family is not big into wine, my neighbor brings us a bottle at Christmas and it is HORRIBLE, it tastes like a rancid cough syrup but he swears it's the best Rolling Eyes , I don't see myself going to wine tastings so is there something better out there you can recommend? Something sweeter maybe? Cool

There's nothing wrong with a glass of wine, however most people will have a problem of stopping at one when you already have the bottle open and no one else wants any. All things in moderation. Keep you calories in check and have your grapes too Smile

I think it depends how far you are in your weight loss. If you still have a lot to go, I wouldn't play with wine. Who knows what's right, but I know everyone's body is different and will react differently to things that seem obviously good or bad for your weight loss journey. I wouldn't have messed with alcohol at all in the beginning when 100 pounds seemed like a ing road. I would now since I'm closer to my goal, although some people would argue that I should keep to the straight arrow. I have a drink or two here and there now, approximating like 1-2 drinks a month. Some self-reflections might help you in deciding, maybe?

Well, I think Red Wine would be the better option as opposed to beer or any cocktails. I have a glass of red wine every other night and still managed to lose quite a bit of weight. However, a glass of red wine is about 120 cals. If that fits within your RDI for the day, then why not? But if you don't like the taste, don't bother torturing yourself - it is not a weight loss concoction Smile

Laughing Yep if you drink too much wine it has the opposite effect, as long as it fits in with your RDI. Maybe its akin to slurping vinegar which helps digestion?!Shock

lol, such fun to think of wine as an aid in weight loss... Any alcohol will slow down your metabolism. Your liver will turn all forces into cleansing the alcohols that are put in to your body and stop metabolizing all others.

That being said, red wine does have some health benefits but if weight loss is your goal. then don't drink........anything!

I'm pretty much in agreement with what's already been said, I can't see how drinking wine would help lose weight unless it's taking the place of food. But as long as you account for the calories and adjust, in moderation it's ok.

Thanks for all the replies yall! I've never been a drinker, I'm 22 years old and I can count on one hand how many alcoholic beverages I've had in my life. And wine to me is just gross, but I know a lot of people swear by drinking one glass a day for it's health benefits so I wanted to throw the question out there to see if it was worth choking down a glass a day, I guess it's not lol.

SouthernGirl, It's an ongoing discussion with me & Keeper. I appreciated the question you posted just so I could share with him what others thoughts are on the topic. I jokingly tell him he's a Wine-O Laughing He *doesn't* find my joke funny Confused

You could sort of say that I lost weight by drinking red wine because before, I'd been drinking cocktails. It was just when out with friends, but it was often enough. I drink wine much slower than cocktails, and each glass has less calories, so overall, I was consuming less calories. However, if you don't drink a lot already, it won't help adding it. Not drinking any alcohol at all would have meant faster weight loss.

No.two glasses of red wine provide 250 calories, which is more than 10 percent of the daily intake of someone following a 2,000 calorie per day diet.

wine has a lot of calories, so don't forget to count those towards your RDI

well.......the site says 1.5 net carbs. I haven't entered into FS yet (I don't remember how many pitchers the ginger syrup made)oops!
We made 6 pitchers,(still have some syrup left over) got pretty tipsy together, and still had a loss last week. Overall, very happy-weight still dropping, and tastes better than Michelob Ultra! Tastes close to Mojitos.
