was speaking with someone in my journal and tattoos were mentioned. i think they are a beautiful display of art (i have 16)... i was wondering what everyone has? how many.. like whats your favorite? do you have any you got to help you in this journey or to be a memory of how well you did.

i have "par la grace de dieu" on the side of my middle finger... means "by the grace of god" in french... got it last month... its reminds me everyday that i can do this. i can lose this weight and that God will give me the family that i long for =]

tattoos? stories? share?!?!

cant figure out how to add a pic or i would!

Definitely love tattoos, and personally have probably 10% body coverage. They are for a wide variety of reasons, and I love them all. Some major projects in the works, but unfortunately I really don't have the finances to make them a reality at the moment (hopefully it will culminate in the next few years with both sleeves completed as well as a full backpiece)

I think that tattoos are beautiful, and I wish that I had one or two. Unfortunately I'm terrified of both pain and needles, so I will most likely never get one.

I have two, both in white ink. The one on my left wrist says "solitude" in hebrew. It is from my favorite quote "In solitude, where we are least alone." Reminds me that no matter how lonely I feel, I am never alone. My other is a cross I designed between my shoulder blades with 3 small crosses around it honoring my 3 grandparents that have passed away. I'm looking forward to several more in the future!!! Love them!!!

oh wow! I was actually thinking of getting my first tattoo this summer. Its for my grandma and aunt who both passed away a few weeks ago. I'll put up a pic when its all done SmileIm planning on putting it in the middle of my back, between the shoulder blades.

Questions though!
Cost? - its going to be black and white, lot of detail, not very big at all
Painful? - rather how painful.
Healing time? - any tricks to make it heal better or faster.

I have 14 tattoos. But always getting more... Smile 8 upper body - 6 lower body. Getting 3 more by end of the year.

Ninjapanda -- please be very careful in choosing your tattoo artist. You should see his/her work about 6 months of healing. So, if you know anyone who you know has gotten tattoos. Look at theirs. Is there a huge gap in the colors? Are the colors even? What do the lines look like? Are the one continuous width throughout the whole thing or do they get fatter and skinny?
Really good artists will cost you more than mediocre artists or even bad artists -- you get what you pay for and since you want a portrait, be VERY careful. I've seen some really crappy portrait work and you will have this on your body for the rest of your life.
Painful -- yup, it is. But not so bad that I didn't go back and get 13 more.
Healing time -- Couple of weeks (avoid sun and pools for a month at least)

I have 4 (2 back, 1 foot, 1 hip). They all are tied to very meaningful moments or memories. I still have 1 or 2 in the works and then I'm done (except for adding to my life story tattoo which is forever ongoing)

@Ninjapanda - tattoos really aren't that painful, but there is a sliding scale depending on where you get them. The one directly over my hipbone was more painful than my foot or back, but on a scale of 1-10, none were above a 4. I barely felt the ones on my back. Cost depends on the artist, you get what you pay for and I wouldn't skimp on something as permanent as a tattoo.

Thank you so much guys. All this information will definitely help. No colors, just black and white. The design basically is, metal trident on top connected to a lotus on the bottom. Yea they have a sight up with their work and i know people who have went to the artist im looking up as well. They have awesome/ok/couple of bad reviews.... So i'm hoping for the best.

I have seen some beautiful tattoos and some really unpleasant ones. I have a celtic knot in black over my left deltoid. I wanted it in a spot that was easy to conceal or display. I took a long time to decide what I wanted and I'm happy with it.
I was not smart enough to check whether tattoo parlors are regulated by the health department in my state. I believe (hope) that the artist I chose was careful not to risk disease transmission but I wish I'd been more careful

I have an ear of corn on my shoulder. It represents my husband, whose nickname is Corn. It covers over a shooting star that matched my first husbands tattoo.
If not today, then when?

im totally jealous. i want a full sleeve so badly. from shouldar to wrist on one arm. but it is so much money. Evil or Very Mad

my huband wants a 1/2 so with us both in the "want" it stinks. im hoping maybe with taxes or something soon... but when i say that, like i have for the past 3 years... ANYTIME we come into any money we need it for something. you know, the cars break or the dog needs to go to the vet or someone looses a job. its been too tough, but im hoping the good stuff is coming soon and so will that tattoo!!

I have two tattoos, and they run the gamit in terms of tattoos haha. I have a small wire heart on my ankle but I just finished an 8x10 (roughly) on my back of Munch's piece "Madonna"

I think the pain level for everyone is different, even in where it will hurt the most for a person. My ankle didn't bother me at all, but my back at times was really painful. If you require more than one sitting, definitely give yourself time to heal (just because it looks good and doesn't hurt to the touch doesn't mean that's the case all the way to where the needle hits!) I learned my lesson after my third sitting & gave myself 3 weeks until my fourth sitting.

Good luck on your tattoo ninjapanda!
