Articles from much more credible sources:

While they did not say Atkins is the best things since sliced bread (or sliced bacon Laughing ), they did not say Atkins is dangerous. Therefore my personal feel is the best diet is the one that works for you (as long as it is medically sound)!

Thats how I feel MDEP what every works best for you. I have a friend on Weight Watchers. I tried it for 3 days and really did not like it. Not that it is wrong or bad I just did not like it for me.

I'm with you there... Weight watches was not for me either and MDEP has some good solid info there. I hope all the newbies around will really do their research and find what DOES work best for them especially for the long haul. And believe me this has been one LOOOONG haul!

So very true, Barbie.
Right now I'm having problems staying truly low carb (as in following the plan strictly). I've been eating more fruit and vegetables because that's what my body is telling me that it wants right now. But for the past couple of days I've been steering clear of the squirrely bread and definitely rice and pasta.

To All...I "love" girl-power!!! As women, we hold nothing back..ha,ha,ha...As for the "Atkins" way, just a couple of lite thoughts...Ladies I think we can all agree that anytime we start a new diet there is always issues to be had (crabbiness, constipation, etc.)however, on a medical standing "Atkins" will clean up your triglycerides and chloesterol in your blood work...this part it scientifically proven...check out what even Dr. Oz has said about low-carb dieting and how it melts "fat" like butter, but watch the "sugar alcohols" such as maritol and sorbitol..can cause awful cramps...It is a great diet like so many others, but stay in tune with your own body and find out the "highs" and "lows" because every diet has them...Love to all...Smile

I will say sorry for stepping on toes, and will apologize for jumping the gun. I was still using the old info from when I used this diet. My only problem was the feeling of being ridiculed for having an opinion. I did not in anyway claim to be and expert on this diet or any other for that matter. I will not change my view on this diet just to make other people feel better. But I will take better care not to jump to conclusions.

@mdep1229 I will check out the sites that you posted so I can be better educated on this type of diet.

@kellyhoo18 I am sorry to you if i offended you in any way. As to your problem you could try doing squats or if you have a exercise ball, sit on that and roll your hips side to side. Both do a good job of getting things moving, I hope that you find some relief. And even though this diet is not for me I hope that you have the best of luck with it. You have many wonderful people here to help you.

I hope i cleared the air, Coz I really like this site and the last thing i want to do is have ppl mad at me. good luck everyone. Smile

Hey Skinny, no harm, no foul. You did not step on anyone's toes (well, certainly not mine). I cannot do Atkins myself either, but I am a firm believer that we are all different, and if a whole bunch of people swear by Atkins and a whole bunch of doctors say it is not going to hurt, then it is probably a reasonable way of eating.

I did not post links to the full articles, just the abstract, but the conclusion parts are self-explanatory. Those articles were published in the Journal of American Medical Association.

I hope you have a wonderful evening.

Just wanted to add something regarding the constipation. The website suggests that you include a fish oil tablet with your multivitamin. I have been doing that and eating the salads that they recommend. I have had less constipation this week than normal. In fact i am almost going too well if you know what I mean. I am getting in the 8 8oz servigs of water also. just hinking that if you try adding the fish oil and concentrating on the salad veggies, it might help. As most know (but apparently not all) this is NOT a veggie free diet. Eating the fresh veggies is a big part of the program. Don't skimp on them and your problem may go away.
