Hello, I have been on WW since 1/1 and I use the online features. I do however also have etools. But you are correct. You can get great info without it Very Happy

It's not free. You can join get the info. and do it on your own. I ordered books off EBay, but I paid more than what WW charges.

If you don't have the weight watcher books that tell you how many points the food is check out the website for food point values. If your current weight is less than 150 pounds then you should use 18-23 points a day.
Hope this helps - you can get all the recipes from the weight watchers site for free and check out their message boards for ideas.

I hope I don't get in trouble for this, but you can kind of cheat the weight watchers program if you think you can do it alone. Weight watchers had a free 1 week trial online, and then you get charged the monthly fee, etc. So what I did was signed up for the trial, found out how much my points would be at my current weight, then 10 lbs lighter, then again until my goal weight. You can easily find out point values online. I honestly don't think you should have to pay to want to lose weight. I think going to meetings is probably a good idea, but we'll see how well I can do on my own at first.

Hi. I do meetings and online. i do not mean to offend when I right this, but b/c you can't write inflection in email it sometimes comes off PLEASE, I am not being offensive. You are right, one doesn't have to pay to lose weight which is why there is much info in public domain. However, if one wants a specific diet, then one should pay. Even if it is buying a book. You should pay for someone's time, effort and research.

Wow, i am at exactly this crossroad right now -- i pay $39/mo. for WW but haven't gone to the meetings or used the online or ANYTHING. I really feel the only feature i need is the automatic points calculator and the no longer existent live chat. I have gone to meetings but HATE them becuase the people i have met there are like me -- all talk and no action!!! I don't want to sit around & talk about recipes -- i want to talk weightloss strategies but in the group setting you really can't get the answers you want on how to tailor the program to your own specific needs. Perhaps it's bc we don't have good leaders here bc a lot of ppl tell me they have great meetings where they any case, i think i am going to do it using DWLZ, the tools i have collected over the years, and hopefully with the help of this site. The bottom line is MOVE MORE EAT LESS and find yourself a support system that works for you!!
I would LOVE to get a live chat started here -- is there one or can we start one via msn or yahoo? would anyone like to do that?

I did WW a couple of years ago and wasn't that thrilled with my leader/group either, so I have decided to do it on my own this time. I still have the paperwork regarding points and such and I ordered a points calculator on ebay. So far so good. Some people really benefit from the meetings, but they aren't for everyone. The main idea for me is being disciplined with my eating and exercise and realizing that it's not just for short term, but forever (lifestyle change----correct). That's what we can't forget. You can't look at it as a diet to do until you drop the weight or you WILL gain it all back. That's something I keep having to remind myself of. (so not fun!)Good Luck to all!

There are two parts to the online program
1. the whole shootin match (NOT FREE), you get all the "materials",the journal aspect of it, the forums etc.

2. the community only (FREE), you get the forums and the community recipes etc. No calc, no journal, no "materials" sent by email.
