done with Atkins

I have been doing Atkins for A WHILE. I started with only 10 lbs to lose and it doesn't work for me.
I am going back to lower cal and exercise...couldn't get any slower anyway.
Any motivational advice for me??

I find that not having to limit my self, well limit but not cut out stuff has helped the most. I try and weigh everything I eat or make so I know how much I really am eating. What most people think is a serving is false. It can be slow and hard to stick with but I know that it is working and I will keep with it. Good Luck

lmd, Im sorry to hear that Atkins isn't working for you. If you'd like Im sure some of us would be more than willing to go over your food log to see if there is anything that stands out and which might prevent you from seeing better results.
I know it can get very frustrating but please, let us help you. You can do it.

You can do whatever you set your mind to. Cliche, but it's true. Whatever program you choose to follow (or if you create your own) you will get out of it only what you put into it. Atkins works, South Beach works, Weight Watchers works, my plan (limiting my calories and fat intake/exercising more) works, but they only work if you work them.

You can do it! You just have to really want it. Good luck with on weight loss journey.

I tried Atkins I only needed to lose 15 lbs, but I am super sensitive to the lack of carbs, I love veggies and fruits and nuts. It just wasn't right for me. I am trying to just do low cal/fat and exercise. I feel great, Atkins did but me on the right step as I am sure it will with you, just log EVERYTHING you eat for the first week(its a pain but its better to plan out a day before) you will feel like you have the power over what goes into your body,and hopefully keep it up. Don't just say 'I am done with Atkins where are the M&Ms.' Stay on the track of no white flour and sugar and plan, also look up the ZoneDiet. Its a good idea for someone wanting to cut down but not out the carbs and have a low fat intake hope this helps.

Okay, so this may be heresy to some, but I'll say it: Atkins doesn't work for everyone! Nope, it doesn't. And it's OK! I'm relatively new here, but I think I've already developed a reputation as an absolute low-carb nut-job. I've probably read every single low-carb diet out there, most of the non low-carb diets, the original low-carb diet (Banting from the 19th century), so it's not that I"m not an advocate. I credit Low Carb dieting with literally saving my life, and I've lost 60 lbs. (net, down from a high of 90 because I got distracted by moving for 4 months out of a total of 9 months). But with all that reading, here's what I know: low carb is only the best diet for about 40% of the population. For that 40%, it is radically better. But it's only better for a minority. So don't feel like you have to do low-carb!

In other words, it's okay.

The underlying assumption of Atkins is that the reason we're overweight is a problem with carbohydrate metabolism. And for some of us, this is clearly true. In fact, there's a whole constellation of symptoms that has been described over the past 30 years (long after Dr. Atkins wrote the first version of his book) in the Medical literature, called "Metabolic Syndrome", all of which seem to be related to insulin resistance. These include high blood pressure, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, Type 2 Diabetes, Lipidemia (i.e. high cholesterol), heart problems, and ... you guessed it ... morbid obesity.

But guess what... if you've only got ten pounds to lose, and don't have any of those other health problems at the moment, that doesn't really describe you, does it? It seems like about 40% of the population are carbohydrate sensitive. So count yourself lucky, and be blessed in pursuing an easier dietary approach. Just don't give up because the first approach you tried didn't work. You owe it to yourself and to those who love you to take charge of your health now before you end up where I was last July--250 lbs. overweight, diabetic, and a cancer scare. Take charge now and you can never have to go there.

Just remember: nobody can be healthy for you. Nobody can tell you the right plan for you. It's up to you to take all the information and advice that you will get from all the people here, all the books, all the news and doctors and everyone else, and figure out what makes you healthy. Don't let anyone tell you that they know your body better than you do.

Hey hottagain, your post sounds exactly how I feel. I am ditching Atkins today. I only had 10 lbs to lose, with no luck. I can't deal with a diet that wants you to stay away from whole grains and fruits.
I agree it can get you back on the right track and help you get away from sugar cravings. But I now have an appreciation for regular serving sizes and the food pyramid.
I am looking forward to a healthy apple today! It has been sooo long since I have had fruit. How can an apple be sooo bad for you.

Thank you for that post. Everybody is different. Atkins (or other low-carb diets) is not a one size fits all diet. Our bodies have different needs and requirements. We need to find what works for us and go with it. Amphigory, congrats on your successes.

Different diets work with different people. If something's not working for you, drop it like a bad habit. There's no sense in wasting time when there are so many other plans to choose from (or for you to create on your own).

Try to do something you can comply with. If you love eating steak, then there's no way you're going to stick with a vegetarian diet long term. If you love eating bread, there's no way you're going to stick with a gluten free diet for long. Even if you lose weight slower, you'll stick with it longer and maintain your results if you actually like what you're doing.

I don't think anyone needs a diet to lose the last 5 or 10 pounds. This final bit of weight is very hard for alot of people to drop. Most find that it takes exercise to lose the final 5 to 10. Or if your wealthy, liposuction.

Dont do liposuction it looks quite different from that on advertisements.I had it on my tummy back in 2007 and my tummy looked like a deflated baloon for many months.With exercise and dieting my body is shrinking and toning in all other parts except my tummy which is still looks uneven and lax...If atkins is not working simply do a balanced diet with controlled calories and carbs and exercise.Those last few pounds would go away eventually.Best of luck.

i did lose alot of weight the first two weeks of atkins but now i seem to be yo yo'ing alot between having lotsa health issues and a slip here and there..which is my own fault..but i never been a big fan and water or veggies but im trying...two i believe that one must always incorporate excercise on some level..which is something i need to do now that ive been in pain management and kidney stones have passed, yay!! thinks and hopes im on the road to recovery and that ill be able to stick by the not one who really likes sweets either, usually just around TOM...but ive noticed SALT has been something i been messing with lately..its like my body is begging for salt..why is that?? anyone know?? its just everything tastes so bland all the time without it..i bought a salt substitute but it tastes kinda funny..

anyways..i think that with low cal and excercise for someone who only needs to loose 10-15 best..and of course..lotsa water, like it or not.. i dont like water either, but i force as much as i possibly can...they say its good for you and a scales' best we just need to keep that in mind,,

so good luck to all in whichever plan u choose and lets remain friends and keep each other abreast of how things are working still helps to hear success stories from any plan

IF your doing Atkins and you only have 10 pounds to lose, you probably should be eating some fruits and whole grains again. You should have started in OWL and then gone into pre maintainence.
Only in induction is there no fruits and whole grains. If you've followed the phases of the diet you would gradually be adding fruits and whole grains to your diet.
