My name is Rachel. I turned 40 10 days ago. Throughout this last year, I have gained 25 pounds. I am freaking out; I did have my blood tested recently and found out that my testosterone way extremely low along with my estrogen. I have been in menopause since I was 24 and had to have a complete hysterectomy. I recently tried the keto with my husband he lost 40 pounds, and I gained ten. I honestly don't know what to do. In the past, I struggled with an eating disorder. I am working hard to create a healthy relationship with food. However, it is not going as well as I planned. I would welcome any tips, suggestions, advice from you all.

Hi and welcome.

I am a 38 year old woman in europe. Smile

I've also done keto (Atkins, actually) many years ago. Many things did me in with that diet that made it non-viable for me. From lifestyle, to family life, you name it... However, one of the factors was also the fact that I'm petite, and even though I was following the diet, my calorie intake was still too high for my body. I lost weight, but not much.
I feel ya.

At this moment I am 2Kg away from my goal (I weigh 52Kg), and what helped me was to:

1- Know myself (know what triggers me, what I cannot live without, how my body responds to what foods, for example)
2- I found a way of eating that works for me
3- I don't feel (too) guilty when things don't go according to plan
4- I have my mind in the game - my way of eating is here to stay, and I'm able to control it

It took A LOT of internet searching and soul searching for me to get my mind in the game and then find what choices I was going to make. But it's doable. I've already lost 22Kg (very slowly and healthily, in over a year), and I'm super happy.

Anyway... GOOD LUCK!
Depending on what works for you if you want/need a buddy, hit me up Smile

Find low-calorie filling foods like lean meats, low-calorie high fiber wraps, fruit, etc. Just find ways to ensure your calorie intake is lower than your expenditure. Move more, find an exercise that you enjoy and will do for the rest of your life.
Consume whatever foods you prefer, whenever you prefer to consume them, while ensuring nutrient sufficiency and meeting caloric goals.

I have been overweight since childhood, I can honestly say I had tried every diet going on the planet, all unsuccessful in the long run. I started learning about food and how my body processes them and now I'm proud to say that I achieved my weight loss goal. These forums helped me a lot so I wanted to return the favor. This is how I did it:

In my opinion what made an impact in my body and really made me lose a lot of weight faster in the last weeks was sincerely this new fat burning diet from “the truth about abs” page that some friends suggested me, and tbh it’s the most complete and easiest diet guide that I’ve found and I don’t even have to be counting calories everyday like other ones (I was tired of that). When I began to follow it, I drastically noticed the changes in my body within the next few days and I started to feel better with myself (because of all the antioxidant, hormones and stress management tricks they share) at the same time I was losing the weight I wanted and fighting against diabetes (I didn’t believe it at the first moment but I researched it and found that the reason is that those recipes speed up a lot the fat metabolism). Tbh it was really fast and easier haha but I'll share with you the post where all this is explained. Here I leave you the website where I found it: https://bit.ly/2MxAh2u (hope it helps you =D)

Dear Rachel,

My first piece of advice is to talk to your doctor about what your hormone results mean and why you have put on weight very quickly. It may be that you need hormone replacement therapy or that it needs adjusting. Until you can be reassured that your body is functioning properly, it would be unwise to start playing Russian roulette with your diet. In the meantime, I suggest you just try to eat a balanced diet involving as much fresh un-processed food as possible. Try to get plenty of rest and drink at least a pint of water per day. Don't fret about calorie counting or fat content, just eat "fresh" and chill out. I hope you feel better soon. X
