Stood on the scales for the 1st time in about 3 years and am 17 st. Soooo upset about it so have joined here. I have arthritis so walking is difficult and my husband of 51 years east anything he wants. So unfair. So help me anyone need encouragement but certainly dont want to do Slimming World etc

the 3 biggest incentives are your 1.health, 2 how you feel day to day and 3 how you look

3 is a by product of succeeding at 1 and when you succeed at 1 2 is taken care of

life is not unfair it is just what it is, other peoples luck or lack of luck has no bearing on you so forget about that

I hit my goal weight nearly 7 years ago and have never put one pound back on

you have to change WHO you are now , to WHO you want to be and commit and stick to whatever it takes...…………..you knew you were overweight well before you stood on the scale it just confirmed what you already knew.

use the app and look for ways to increase activity ….perhaps swimming ? if you cant walk much and get into this for the long haul , there is no end its about getting to a better place and staying there and that can only come from YOU! encouragement only goes so far you have to want it more than the alternative and be ready to make the necessary permanent lifestyle changes...……………...good luck

Thanks so much for replying I need all the encouragement I can get as when I told OH I had lost 4 lb there was no re action. Love swimming but cant go have no transport and as I said to doctor being weightless then trying to get up a ladder cant be dont with arthritis in legs. Am trying to go for a walk each day. Have no family at all so cant ask for their support

I think weight loss can be achieved at any age/any weight. You can still eat what your husband eats, just in smaller portions. You may find in time what is worth it and whats not worth it. What makes you feel satisfied. Just log everything that you eat, and its trial and error with yourself. You can make notes of what didn't satisfy you, and notes of what did satisfy you and foods that you enjoyed on your diet. Best of luck to you, just never give up, keep logging your food even when you eat more than you want to.

Walking is the best! I broke my leg a few years ago, (i'm 64) and I was told to walk. The best advice I was given was to start of going once around the block or for 5 minutes. do that as many times a day as you can for the first week, then gradually increase the time of each walk and decrease the amount of times you do it a day. It always added up to a 60 minute walk per day but was so easy on me. I'm still working on my balance but aquafit classes are now helping me, Our pool has a 'kiddie' end on the one side and a few of us walk in there where it is sloped and then gently swim over to the area that's doing the classes.
I also started going up and down the stairs at home... 6 stairs, wow, that's all I could do at first and was holding on to the handrail. Now I do those same stairs 30 times twice a day and no hande rail, it took a year but baby steps work!!

If you have arthritis that prevents you from doing exercise then you have to lose weight by controlling what you eat.

Once you lose weight walking and exercising will become easier, and you can add that to your new way of living too.

I think the body does that a lot. Great that you hung in there and was patient. Some people go crazy and do weird things or just give up. But believing in your diet is the main thing

what are the best calorie foods you personally find?
Exercising would be best for muscle mass combined with eating protein rich food. What every you like to eat, I suppose
