I am new to this site and was just wondering how many calories i should be eating , when i put my age weight ect in it says 2400 calories to lose weight, just wanted to know how accurate the figures on site are , other sites have me from 2000/2800 aday it all becomes very confusing, i like this one because it syncs with all my devises,
Only thing i find it does not change day very well when i open up in the morning its still showing yesterday

My personal experience (and echoed by many other more 'tenured' FSers) has been that the FS calculator runs a bit high -- early on, I was referred to the Calorie Calculator on www.calculator.net by another FSer, and have been using it ever since. I think it offers more input variables and allows you to select an RDI based on how much you want to gain/lose (up to 2+/- lbs. per week). It's served me well thus far as I 'split the difference' b/w a 1- and 2-lb. per week loss RDI and I've averaged just a hair under 2 lbs. lost per week.

I would recommend you use the sedentary value for activity. We're really good at overestimating how much activity we actually perform during the week, so it's best to just assume zero and go from there. Worst case your estimate is more accurate.

Best case you're actually way more active and end up losing weight at a faster rate.

Win win.

If you are using the FS calculator don't log your activity minute by minute eg "sitting", "driving ", "shopping " but only the periods of more intense exercise . I find that works about right for me.

I am also new to this site and mine comes up at 2100 per day, which I thought was quite a lot. I have a lot of smoothies and they don't hold a lot of kilojoules if made with fruit and vegetables. As I am wanting to loose weight, I understand you need to eat enough to actually loose weight, so I will endeavour to bump up the carbs (not bread) to achieve the RDI of 2100.

Use Mummydees' link for a more accurate RDI. I am male, 185, 6'1" and my RDI is 1850 to maintain weight. I think anything above 2000 is high for most folks.
