As simple as cutting calories

Has anybody else simply just started to decrease calorie intake without actually being on a full blown diet.

I am doing that, and thus far it seems to be working, eat whenever I want, just keep track of how much and what... Surprised

Keeping track of your calories is the only way to estimate your energy input and output, but your body also needs spare parts it sometimes comes in the form of energy “fats or protein” and other times in none energy form but equally important minerals and vitamins.

And also losing weight is not always equal you’re going to want to minimize your muscle loss and maximizes you fat loss, if you do things correctly you should have a 4/1 ratio of fat muscle loss. But if you do things wrong you can have a ratios as bad as 1/1.
So yes all that matters for weight loss is CICO, but not all weight loss is the same.

I agree and will add... be sure to consider that eating certain foods (which seem to be carbs for many people) will trigger increased appetite, which can overwhelm the desire to lose weight, and causes so many to stop "dieting", or "counting calories" or just generally paying attention to their intake. Any type of dietary monitoring usually results in short term weight loss... and why there are still so many "diets" and "programs" around. If you a better chance at long term success, pay just as much attention to WHAT you eat to find those appetite triggers, so you don't ever go through a day feeling like you haven't satisfied your appetite.
If you always feel satisfied, you won't have any reason to change your current eating regimen, and "fall off the wagon".

so glad I read these posts There is a right way to do things and a wrong way. The wrong way is tempting because it is fast-----but look what you are actually doing to yourself.

If it's used as a short term jumpstart, I don't think it's a horrible idea. For some people, it's a way to start limiting the quantity of what you eat.

Long term though, I don't think it's sustainable. As corifeo mentions, your body needs certain things to function properly. If you're not getting those things, you'll pay a price. Personally, I'm not a fan of a lot of supplements and pills. If I'm eating a reasonably healthy diet, I'll get most of what I need. Certain areas though need the occasional boost.

that worked for me. I went on the diet with the goal of nipping and tucking gradually. I set a 30 day goal to be on a diet. I lost 6 pounds in the first 30 days and am still on the plan- I gradually lowered and changed my eating habits. I posted about it on my blog I also have it as a journal entry on this site. It was the best decision I ever made.

There's more to it than "just counting calories". However, you can go a LONG way with it, before you need to do much more. The first LONG part of my weight loss journey was with focus only on calories.
That being said, I would focus on maintaining muscle mass if I was to do it again.

I have invested in a second had game console the Wii.. I have gotten the games Wii fit plus and Wii Sports and Wii Sports resort and finding they work on my muscles as I get a little sore when been playing. I wont go to the gym as I have a social anxiety disorder so I have invested in some weights too, to enhance my muscle mass hence increasing my calorific burning rate. I am taking advice about building muscles from a friend who I know very well. I have over 140 lbs to lose and I am happy losing little and often.

in the wii fit plus game.. there are yoga...muscle building, aerobics and much much more.

Yes. Counting calories is the ONLY thing that has ever worked for me long term. It's not a quick fix. It is a lifestyle change.

I've lost 50+ pounds watching calories and exercising. However they need to be nutrient dense foods not junk. For example; A 360 calorie McDonald's little hamburger doesn't have the same punch as a broiled fish filet, 2cups of veggies, an orange, and 3/4 cup of brown rice.

fatsecret iphone app and portions
I have the app on my android and I am able to change portion size no problem, i.e. 2, .5, .25, .33, .75 etc. But my friend has an iphone and her version of fatsecret is different and she cannot figure ...
