Hey ladies! How do you deal with your cravings when your period is approaching? I am on a diet to maintain my newly trimmed figure and I do not want to overload on carbs. However, I get a sweet tooth around this time of the month. I find it quite difficult to control my body's cravings for something high in calories: cupcakes with frosting, cinnamon rolls, or I binge on foods heavy in carbohydrates and sugar.

However, what made me lose 40-50 lbs was cutting pasta, bread, and dessert from my diet altogether. I do not want to go back to carbs again.

Do any of you girls have any tips to combat the need for sweet or fatty foods during menstruation? What are healthy substitutes?

Sigh... wish I had tips but I don't. I just eat.

I don't feel very guilty afterwards because 1 or 2 days of overeating will not make me regain the 25Kg and fat I lost, not make me lose all the muscle I gained. (For reference, I'm 2kg away from my goal weight.)

But yea, I just eat.

One thing that helps when I'm on the binge mode is not to have all the snacks I crave at home. I mentioned in another post that what I do is buy snacks for my boyfriend and my kids, but those snacks are things they love and I hate (ha!) so my binging possibilities are already reduced.

Anyway... good luck. Stay strong the rest of the days of the month and you'll be alright.

By the way, while cutting all the carbs from your diet helped you lose weight, the real reason why you did was because you were on a calorie deficit.

Good luck on your journey!

hahahaha - the cravings don't start/end with your period. I'm 62 and still crave sweets. I don't really count my calories as much as watch what I eat. The only bread I eat is Sara Lee's Dieter Bread/whole wheat. High in fiber. The only pasta I eat (for now) is whole wheat (I may switch to veggie-based blech). High protein, lean meats, high fiber. And I have a slim fast berry shake which helps me with that craving monster.
