What should I weigh

So I’m in a personal dilemma. I have lost 81 lbs in the last 10 months which is fantastic. However according to the BMI scale, I should still lose 25 more pounds. I have people tell me all the time if I was to lose that much that I will be too “skinny “. My priority is to be at a healthy weight and not overweight. I’m currently at 155.8. I am a 5”2 female. I do have a large skeletal frame and do have a lot of muscle that the BMI does not take into account. So I just want everyone’s opinion of what they think. The last thing I want is to look anorexic. I just want to be healthy for my 40 th birthday in August. I did buy a set of calipers that Say that I am 22.5 % BF that I feel is too low for what I really believe I’m at. My scale says I’m at 29.4% BF so who knows.

I do not know who can make that decision if not you. Healthy is not tied to a number. If you eat well, exercise some you probably will be healthy. The weight is more about looks and what feels right for you. There are ways to get your bodyfat measured if that is one scientific measurement you would trust. I am 5 2. I will be happy to be size 6. Size 4 is hard for me to maintain. What sizes do you wear now.

Worry about what the mirror shows before worrying about BMI. I'm obese with abs according to BMI.
Consume whatever foods you prefer, whenever you prefer to consume them, while ensuring nutrient sufficiency and meeting caloric goals.

Diablo, you're a weightlifter, of course BMI doesn't apply to you Smile

However, for the rest of us mortals, the BMI is a good guide.
I would say, unless you are an extreme sport person, trust the BMI numbers.

Otherwise, yes, I agree with you. BMI is great for the vast majority of people.

What should you weigh?
You should weigh....healthy.
You should weigh...fit.
You should weigh...comfortable with yourself.
You should weigh...strong.

BMI isn't the holy grail when it comes to being healthy. It IS pretty important when it comes to weight and those are 2 very different things, albeit linked.

On the same lines as Diablo, according to the BMI scale, I am an overweight, size 10 (6 US) 5'3" gal who is active 7 days a weeks and medically in tip top form.

Are you happy as you are? Are you doing everything you can to be healthy, fit and strong? If so, you should weigh the weight you are. Smile

People have your old self in mind. Their opinion on what is "too skinny" for you cannot be trusted.

When I set out on my weightloss journey, I said "I want to get to a bmi of 22.5", and I'm holding myself accountable in respect to that goal. It might seem like a rigid way of seeing things, but unless you make your goals precise and measureable, how are you ever going to know if you've reach them?

I'm your height, and that would be overweight for me. BUT... if your % is that low, I'm thinking you have a lot of muscle density, which is a good thing. If your belly fat is low, and you feel good where you are at, I'd leave it. Just remember, the older you get, the harder it is low loose, so take that into your calculations

It is hard to know what to believe, but i believe that you know yourself best. Are you comfortable with your weight and how you feel more importantly. You have made incredible strides in bettering your health with that 80 plus loss. Congratulations!

According to my "Thinner" Analysis scales, the 40 yr old female should be on target for Body Fat 20 - 30. So you are within target range with either scale. Your BMI should be between 20 - 25.

Your diet, should not be a diet, but a healthy way of eating, making healthier choices as a lifestyle. Take pride in what you have accomplished. Maintain good eating habits and lose a bit more perhaps, gradually. Cut back on your required calories by 250 a day and get some exercise in. You should lose a lb a week , eat well, and not even feel like you are on a "diet". Dry popcorn makes an ideal filler for about 100 calories for 3 cups as a snack. High protein and fiber food provide a longer lasting feeling of fullness.
