So I did the grocery shopping and am geared to go.

I came back on here and read some of the food journals of others on Atkins. Why are so many Not eating??

I see people who are eating bare minimum or eating mostly snack type food (cheese) as meals. The original Atkins does not limit calories. In fact Dr. Atkins specified you would lose weight eating 3000-4000 calories a day if you followed his plan.

When I follow the original Atkins, I never count calories and always eat as much as I want. I end up losing weight every time. It makes me wonder if those who are trying to follow Atkins and count calories are stressing themselves out to much.

Mjgh06 - be careful with what you are eating. My cholesterol and LDL went to the moon doing Atkins. Yes, you can eat all you want but I would not eat as much high fat as most people do. Check your lipid panel with your primary physician

@Sarah+Keith I believe in keeping my doctors in the loop. The 72' Atkins is completely different than what is online. No worries. My woe is what got me from having HBP, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, and more to being all back to normal. What works for some, does not work for all. My health is definitely the oddball to the norm.

I also did the original, classic Atkins diet back in my 20's - Worked like a charm for me. I lost my book over the years though. I could drop 10-12 lbs. in a week back then. Now that I'm approaching 70, it's a lot harder to drop the weight that fast. I picked up the New Atkins Made Easier a few years ago, and they use an "Induction Phase" that seems to give me a quicker head start than the original plan (still 20 carbs per day, but about half of them from a list of Induction Veggies), which encourages me to stick with it a little better since the pounds come off so much slower than they did back then, which can discourage me (when I let it). What is different is the concept of Net Carbs, which Dr. Atkins introduced in Atkins for Life in 2002, the last book he worked on before he died. Because you subtract fiber from the Carbs with the newer method, you can get a little more veggies in there and still keep it under 20 grams. I believe the constant research and occasional changes that are being made to the original are all improvements that work positively in helping "stick with it", which is tantamount for me in particular. I've been a yo-yo dieter most of my adult life, so I'm off and on a lot, and this is always the easiest way for me to get the weight-loss train out of the station again after a relapse. Like you, I also experienced a significant improvement in my lipid profile after a few short weeks. And I agree wholeheartedly, what works for some may not work for others. This diet is worth a try for anyone who likes their meat/protein (please run it by your doctor before starting ANY diet), because if it works for you and you can tolerate it well, it has been a proven winner for many, many people for many, many years.
