I'm on a low carb ketogenic diet too, eating 60g net carbs a day.

I found it hard to adapt to at first because I started off on only 20g net carbs & was quite the carboholic. But after upping my carbs & finding low carb recipes versions to some of my favourite things, like bread, pasta, pizza & cakes I've been fine. Although sometimes I do miss tropical fruits.

There's quite a few low carb, LCHF, Paleo here that you might find helpful.

I guess I'll revive this thread.

I'm a hard core Ketogenic person. I used this diet 5 years ago and got amazing results.

Life happened including a divorce and I ate my pain to put on 50 lbs, smh.

So I'm back on the keto-adapted quest. If you don't know what Keto-Adapted is you really don't understand how you can loose fat and retain muscle mass. I did Body composition every two weeks the first time I did this. After loosing 55 lbs I lost only one pound of lean muscle mass.

So, here are some thoughts for you. In the past as a fitness person, before everything became about supplements. (yes I'm old) The old saying was, the egg is the perfect food. Think about that. What percent fat is an egg? Well by Kcal its between 61% and 63%.

Now that is a big eye opener in what the body could use in fat intake.

Ok, enough rambling, if your really interested in understanding Keto-Adapted weight loss and lifestyle. Read this book "Keto-Adapted - Maria Emmerich".

I've read about 10 books on the ketogenic diet, keto-adaption and living the LCHF lifestyle. Maria's book was the best overall in giving an understanding of how this works without a lot of fluff.
My total Carbs today will be three after taking off for fiber. As I said in the first line, I am hard core keto-Adapted questing, and this diet fits my taste buds perfectly.

Best in health to you all...

Hey if you heard of the keto flu. I read here about keto salts and how they would help you.

Yes, salt is a necessity to keep you from getting dehydrated. I put salt on everything. You may also need to take Magnesium (because you'll need more on this diet) and optional Vitamin C. Other than that, just don't eat too many calories. Every meal is high calorie on the Keto diet and your stomach flora (bateria) also have to change. It takes about 3 weeks to adapt. Also, I can gain weight by eating 1400 calories a day. You will have to find your own calorie balance on the diet. I have less calories early in the day and more in the evening, so I don't snack after supper. Hope this helps.

This is interesting. I thought that for keto diet I had to eat less than 30g of carbs a day. Do we have a clear idea on what is the carb approximate limit?
I've been doing keto for 4 weeks now, with good results (just didn't know that this site existed) and keeping it under 30g, but today I did not realise and had 41g. Do you think that is enough to take me out of ketosis? I will have to do the test tomorrow again.

Hi Mixolidia. I think most places you will see that people say 20 net carbs (carbs - fiber) is what is keto. But if you are in ketosis on 30 then that is just right for you. The point of the ketogenic diet is to be in ketosis. Not sure what will happen at 41. You have to assess it. I usually bloat when I go out of ketosis so I can tell from that. I have to stay under 30 but it varies from person to person

I did years ago for 9 myths, then I failed miserably and got all the weight back.

Keto is not for everyone, but if it works for you, run with it.

Good luck!

I did a test last week in ketosis and out for anyone interested. The days I ate 1300 calories on Keto I lost. The days I ate 1300 calories with high carbs, I gained. At Christmas time, if I eat one cookie I'll gain one pound, two cookies two pounds. My body tells me what to eat.

I'm still finding it difficult to know what to cook to stay in 20, but with 30 I have tested twice already and been in ketosis and have lost weight (also because it's hipocaloric). Let's see how it goes, after all I'm in week 4.

I've been going back and forth between keto and low carbs for about 8 months now. Love it a lot and dropped about 20 pounds. Heigh 5'6, from 150 to 130. Also, it cured my PCOS. (for girls)

Currently, I am doing Raw Keto and LOVE IT A LOT! I also lift and do some cardio.

Come hints for those who just start their KETO journey.
1. Try to skip breakfast, intermittent fasting definitely helps to stay into ketoses. Spikes your HGH as well which is always good.
2. When I feel like I am hungry in the morning, I have a cup of coffee with 3-4 grams of butter.
3. USE KETO STRIPES! After a while, you will always know when you got out of ketoses, but first couple months, use the stripes. You might think you do everything right but it's not always true.
4. While starting KETO, try to do 36-72 hours of water fast. Transitioning into ketoses takes time for some people, you might spend weeks trying to get into keto state because of how much carbs you have in your gut. Transitioning into ketoses is also not always a pleasure. 36 hours/3 day water fast will quickly get you into KETO state and jump-start your keto journey.

GOOD LUCK!

I try to keep it under 20g for myself. I kicked myself out of ketosis 3 weeks ago and it took me almost a week to get back in for some reason. Good luck
