I did my first workout with weights and I am so sore. It's the second day since I did the workout and my body still feels like it's been run over. I am planning to do the same workout tomorrow. (That would mean I did the workout on Monday and want to redo it Thursday) That's an appropriate amount of rest time, right? If I am still sore should I wait?

WARM UP PROPERLY!!

Never work out without warming up first.

And listen to your body. If you feel injured, don't push through it, or you will injure yourself even more and will eventually take longer to recover.

Good luck!

Alrighty! thanks for the advise, I think I'll also lower the weights a bit. At least until I can finish the entire workout routine without my muscles giving out. I didn't injure myself at all but my muscles are still sore three days out. Starting with two 20 lb dumbbells was too much for me. I'll go to ten or fifteen this time, I think.

It is highly suggested working out after a good warm up session otherwise your muscles will be sore and no matter how much you are used to the workout sessions. Well, I had preformed weight loss yoga for a month but now I am feeling super lazy. I was thinking about some interesting weight loss activities and got to know about outdoor fitness vacation concept. It is absolutely perfect for me; after all I love vacations. They also provide yummy but super healthy food and what else I can wish! Will surely join a group for these vacations.

you'll adapt to it over time...…...Rome was not built in a day.

I would advise 1 day train 2 days off 1 day train etc....on all days be as active as possible i.e. walk and move around a lot

I agree with the above posters. Just start gradually.

I don't do weights, but my boyfriend does, and religiously, before any weight lifting, he runs a good 15 minutes in the treadmill to warm up, and does some neck/arms/shoulders warm up exercises.

Also, at least for me there's no "weights or cardio" question - why not both? I do yoga and cardio. Regardless of what some people may think, using your own body weight to exercise is a sort of weight lifting Very Happy

So it doesn't really matter if you walk/cycle/run/lift/pilates/etc, the important thing is to do something- find what you love to do and stick with it Smile

Good luck!

18 years of lifting and my warmup has always been 1 light set of lifting. Maybe not the best advice but I've never had an injury from not warming up for several minutes on a treadmill. Walking into the gym is good enough, hahaha.

Thanks for all the great feedback. My muscles are already adapting to the routine and only sore for a day or two afterwards (and not nearly as sore as the first time). I walk or jog about seven miles on the days that I don't do the weights. I even persuaded my boyfriend to do the circuits with me. Since our "gym" is in our garage (in Florida) we sweat our butts off. It's ultimately a great feeling when it's over with.

Depends on your age, if you are over 40, one light set of lifting isn't enough, you have to warm up properly. Also, dynamic stretching is a must together with a warm-up program before lifting any heavy weight. Sure, if you are many years in lifting, proper warm-up becomes less mandatory because your body has been adapted on this way of living Smile

Yeah I think warming up properly is a good idea. I just started doing a lot of walks and I'm hoping to find a work out partner soon in my area to go work out with me.. Maybe motivate each other. I been looking into this cinderella workout http://bit.ly/cinderella-weight-loss-off but not sure if it will fit me or not. Have anyone on here heard of it ?
