Kate that makes me feel much better than...I wondered how I could still have so much body fat yet be seeing muscle definition. I'm just not going to worry about it. :)

I used the electronic one on my scale, but it may not be accurate...I stay extremely well hydrated drinking at least 3x the recommended amount of water a day. But as Kate said..it is just another number...still I don't want to be one of those fat skinny people...lol.

I am curious about body fat percentages. Right now I am 5'10" 188lbs and 37% body fat. According to a chart I found on the web...the body fat break downs are as follows: Classification Women (% fat) Men (% fat) Essential Fat 10-12% 2-4% Athletes 14-20% 6-13% Fitness 21-24% 14-17% Acceptable 25-31% 18-25% Obese 32% plus 25% plus So I am obese (body fat wise, just overweight BMI wise) and will be until I hit 31%, but even then should I try to go down to 24%? I have been hitting the weights hard this past month and plan to keep lifting. I just don't have a clue on how low I should aim for??????

How soon should I see results
Sounds like you are working out a lot...hence you are building muscle...which weighs more than fat...check out your inches...I'm thinking that is where you will see the difference. That is how it is for me...I workout hard and stay on a strict diet and sometimes I will be the same weight for two weeks, even though I know I have burned more than enough calories to lose several pounds. But when I look at my inches I see that I have lost :)

i used to be fat
When I was in Afghanistan I got to a period were I was losing a pound a day...not sure how because I did eat three meals a day with snacks (healthy of course) and I worked out usually for 20 mins in the morning...but the weight was just coming off of me. I wish I could get my metabolism to start doing that again...lol

Here it is... 1. naturally more (peanut butter) 2. pink lady apple 3. kraft fat free cheddar cheese 4. Procal chocolate protein shake 5. hormel turkey pepperoni 6. v8 7. daisy light sour cream 8. flax, oat bran and whole wheat flour pita bread 9. Lettuce Shreds 10. jimmy dean turkey sausage I heart my PB and apple :)

Alternatives to Pullups
Hey Everyone...I'm doing a workout program off of bodybuilding.com and one of the exercises for next week is pullups...problem is I can't even do one and really don't want to embarrass myself at the gym by even trying. Does anyone know of a good alternative I can do??

Weights first or Cardio?
I've always heard from the professionals to do a warm-up cardio (no more than 10 mins) then do weights, then do 30 + mins of cardio after. Personally I am soooo wiped out after weight training it takes all I have to do the bike for 20 mins....I tried to run one day and almost fell off the stupid treadmill. So I have been doing most of my cardio up front.

Height/Weight/Size
Well I am .... 5'9.5" 196 lbs Size 12 (new ones)- has some stretch or 14 (jeans from 2000) - 100 cotton in jeans depending on how old they are Shirts = Large to XL ...I'm tall so I have to make sure they are long enough. My hope is to get down to 165 (eventually 155) which is a size 10 (30)(no stretch....only 100 cotton) for me. My shirt size ranges from a M to XL still...I'm tall...so it depends on the length.

17 Day Diet
Has anyone tried this diet...I saw it today on the Drs and am interested in the idea of metabolic, or body, confusion. If you've tried it or something similar let me know how you like it.

How many calories should i be eating?
Muscle weighs more than fat...trying measuring inches instead (bust, waist, hips)...that is where you will see the loss ;)

I agree with JustBreathe...please put those flippin heavy weights back...I tripped over a 80lb dumbbell tonight...I'm so lucky I didn't get hurt.

Progress! Halfway Mark!
That is so awesome...keep up the great work and thanks for sharing your pictures and awesome blog!! I feel the same way as you I've dieted time and time again...even lost quite a bit of weight, but always gained it back. Now I'm eating whenever I'm hungry , eating pizza if I feel like it, keeping active and am HAPPY and the weight is just falling off (slower than in the past, but plan on it staying off forever!!)

Ugghh......got a craving for pizza
Pizza is also my downfall...if it wasn't for it I would be skinny as a rail. I've taken to getting Josephs low carb pitas from walmart, putting some pizza sauce, low fat cheese, turkey pepperoni (only half a serving), and tons of veggies and fresh basil on it. Soooooo yummmy and really not too fatting I think less than 300 calories and it always fills me up. For desert I usually have some fresh fruit or my fav an apple with peanut butter. However I've decided that when I get down below 200 lbs I'm going to start treating myself to a piece of regular pizza and a salad every week. One piece of pizza a week is not going to make me gain weight. Kate (Ky8k)is proof of that.

Question about lower carb
My weight loss slowed so I dropped my carbs way down and it is coming off again :) The only carbs that I am eating at the moment are veggies and fresh fruits (I just can't give up my fruit). But the fruit I eat in the morning or at lunch nothing after that time so that I can burn it off before the end of the day. I think timing can be very important in deciding what to eat. I was told once to eat like a queen in the morning, a princess at lunch , and a maid at dinner. Meaning shrinking my meals/cals as the day goes on...eat those fatty , higher carb things early on and work them off before you go to bed.

The test for this is a idxa scan which measures your fat, muscle and bone weight to within .1% . It is much more accurate than BMI or any other measurement.
