"AROUND THE WORLD" (in 42 Days)
mini challenge- globe trotters Adding breakfast to my routine has probably been the hardest thing about re-learning how to eat. Quite simply, I am rarely hungry in the mornings and value sleep over food! But, I have made a concentrated effort to add a bowl of oatmeal and a glass of milk to my morning most days. Occasionally I will whip up an eggbeaters omelette, and will try to have some fruit, but honestly, most days I feel like I'm really accomplishing something just by eating the oatmeal!

Globe Trotters mini challenge! To avoid munchies I...DON'T avoid munching! I just munch on good things. The GI diet requires 3 snacks a day (sometimes it's hard to eat often enough!). I've noticed that if I do stick with the program I don't get hungry for cakes and cookies, because I've just eaten fruit, or hummus, or nuts. I love it! What I have learned...how much sugar (and it's evil twin, high-fructose corn syrup) are in EVERYTHING from ketchup to bread and everything in between. By avoiding these hidden pitfalls, I'm doing much better! It was scary to learn that it wasn't just the sweets that were getting me!

"AROUND THE WORLD" (in 42 Days)
I hope this isn't too late. I was unexpectedly out of town and cut off from my internet life! Maybe I can count the miles for next week if they don't count for this week? Tues: 40 minute exercise video Wed: 30 minute walk Thurs: nothing :( Friday: playing with dog, cleaning house, 1 hour I'm glad I'm home now and can get back to "dancing"! Only lost 1.1 pound (but it's better than nothing!)

GLOBE TROTTERS!
Hello all. I'm sorry to have been out of pocket this week. I left town Tues night for a job interview on Wed, which ended up leading to a follow up one on Friday, so I just got home late last night. I've been doing okay on exercise and food, but not a lot of change on the scales. I'd like to thank Ashley for stepping up and taking the lead for our team. We'll miss Janelleas, but it's great to have someone that is willing to step up when necessary! By the way, I was offered the job, so I may have a few weeks of crazy moving stuff ahead of me, but I am still committed to this team and challenge...I need you guys!

"AROUND THE WORLD" (in 42 Days)
So, this challenge inspired me today...even though I had already logged in my "required" time for the day, when I needed to run an errand for work I walked instead of driving (even though I was wearing heels!). By doing so I got to add an extra 20 minute walk to my Monday total! go Globe Trotters!

Hey, I'm sorry if this shows up twice, I'm not sure if it "worked" the first time! Monday: 50 minute exercise video I know that's nothing compared to what all a lot of you are doing, but for me it's a MAJOR improvement! Go Globe Trotters!
I think I need help pulling my jaw off the floor...can someone please email me and let me know how you seriously can do so many straight minutes of focused exercise?
My husband has been helping me work out more ever since I mentioned seeing Dr. Oz on Oprah who said that men can extend their life by having sex at least 4 times a week. Our "sexercise" is definitely focused and definitely movement (although I'm logging it as "dancing" since that's not exactly in the activity log!). Hey, it counts!

"AROUND THE WORLD" (in 42 Days)
Go Globe Trotters! My mini goals include: 1. Respecting my body's need for sleep by getting back into a predictable schedule (not doing great at that right now, LOL!) 2. Take my healthy lifestyle with me when away from home...I'll be staying with friends out of town again, and these times are the hardest for me to stay focused. I will plan ahead as much as I can, prepare for potential obstacles, and present options that won't make me feel like I'm cheating on myself! 3. Discover ways to ramp up my movement and create time in my schedule for moving more!

GLOBE TROTTERS!
Hello all! I'm super excited to be a part of this team. We've got a tour director AND an co-director, so we are already ahead of the game. This is my first challenge here, so I may have a lot of questions about the processes. Here's my first one...exercise. Do I log it on my diet calendar and post the weekly total on the challenge thread? Oh, and are we supposed to post weekly weigh in/exercise on this thread as well (I noticed some had put their current weight and didn't want to miss something!)? I'm really looking forward to this, as I have finally got my eating under control and was looking for some motivation to ramp up my exercise. Let's get going!

Changing eating habits.
I've become a little more discriminating as well. I used to be such a carb and sugar junkie I would devour anything! Now, although I really still enjoy sweet treats, I'm not as tempted by the "okay" stuff. I was icing some brownies with chocolate frosting and topping them with M&M's yesterday for a thing at work, and wasn't even tempted to pop one in my mouth. In the past I would have eaten it, even if I knew it wouldn't be that satisfying. Now I won't settle for anything I don't REALLY want (and then only every once in a while).

Are all diet pills bad???
Pink Lady- Welcome! Glad you are here...and that you've started such an interesting dialogue. I agree with the general consensus of the posts that recommend education, moderation, realistic expectations, and appropriate lifestyle changes. I will add my 2 cents about sticking to a diet, though. As someone who had a lot of weight to lose (56 pounds), I had never been able to commit to a weight loss plan because I kept getting hungry or having cravings. I found out eventually that even when I was eating reasonable amounts of food, WHAT I was eating was making me hungrier! Highly processed foods, white flours, sugar, starchy things...the spike in my blood sugar levels would make me crave more and I would be miserable! Now I am following the plan AngelFire reccomended to you, the GI Diet, and I can honestly say I've never been hungry and rarely had cravings (I turned down GIRL SCOUT COOKIES yesterday...I never thought I would do that without crying!) So try the pills if you want, to give you a kick start and some confidence, but check out what may be triggering your cravings as well. The GI diet may not be the one for you, but I bet something will help you make your body's chemistry work for you instead of against you.

Stay motivated!
Biblioholic--Great idea to use food items! I've been using my old University textbooks, but I think the psychological aspect of the foods is a whole lot better! The next landmark I hit I'm doing that!

Stay motivated!
I got this tip to stay motivated from Rick Gallup's book. Every time I hit a "landmark" (15 lbs lost or reached 30% of my goal, for example), I fill up a backpack with enough stuff to equal the amount of weight I've lost. I wear it around the house for a while and am shocked at how substantial a difference is! Seeing the progress I've already made keeps me motivated when I'm feeling overwhelmed or frustrated.

In need of GI tomato soup recipe
Hey all. I feel the flu coming on and am craving my favorite under-the-weather comfort food, campbell's tomato soup. Unfortunately, I'm sure the real deal is packed with sugars...does anyone have a make at home recipe I can substitute? I don't need anything fancy: no spinach, beans, or pasta. Just a bowl of tomato! :?:

Moonwalk
Not to be dense...but what is a moonwalk? I remember the dance from the 80's, but I'm pretty sure that's not what you are talking about!

Getting Started
Welcome! I hope you're off to a great start. My advice would be: 1) get a book...I got "Living the GI Diet by Rick Gallup." You can google and find out a lot of information online, but it's helpful to have a foundation of what you are doing and why for your frame of reference. The book I got describes WHY there are benefits to eating this way, gives tips, and also has some recipes to get you started. 2) get the "bad" food out of your sight! I cleaned out my fridge, freezer, and pantry, (leaving one shelf on each for my husband--who does not need to lose weight- to fill with his favorites that are off limits for me). I can't afford to eat out a lot, so if I only have healthy foods in the house that is all I can eat! Can't wait to hear how you're doing!:)
