How Often Do you weigh yourself?
I have started using my weight loss as a statistics project also, so I weigh myself daily. It can be pretty depressing seeing a 6 lb gain overnight, but also rewarding seeing a 6 lb loss in the same length of time, so I really only count it once a week when I test my body fat percentage also.

Aerobic Cardio ---- Such a Drag
Dreadmill SUCKS!!!! However, for me I found out that by taking myself outside to run, it is not only, not terrible, most of the time it is the highlight of my day now. I have only ever known a couple people who can stand doing a dreadmill workout, it seems to be something you have to work yourself up to, not something you can just start out on.

1.4 grams of fiber to 100 calories is a pretty standard range. Also...I would never recommend (without proper doctor approval) anything less than 1200 cals/day for women, 1500 for men.

8 A.M. or 7 P.M. it doesn't matter, just start up again. You don't push a car up a huge hill just to let it slip all the way back down again, you stop it just as it slips. Either way, what's important is just fixing it again. I slipped up today also, but I'm back on, that's the most important thing and as long as were trying and it doesn't happen all the time then just forgive yourself (Make sure you don't feel guilty if its a rarity), Drink a large glass of water, and move on. Tomorrow's another day for us to learn new things, when bad things happen lets just enjoy a new experience and keep going. You should be proud of yourself for recognizing that you messed up today. That's a step in the right direction.

So....I'm curious if anyone has had any time of weird or unique dreams while they are losing weight. Last time I lost weight I had a couple, but nothing noticeable. This time I've lost about half as much weight as last time, but every night I have weird dreams and I wondered if anyone thought this could be due to hormone changes or what everyone's input is. :?: :d

Eating More
My waist measurement went from 39 1/2" up to 41" within a 2 1/2 month period without change to diet, and no change to weight. I am 6' 4" - 16" arms a "44 chest, 28" thighs, and 26 years old. I am 235 right now also, and very active outside the gym. By the 15x measurement, I would be at 3525 cals maintenance before workout, the 11x would put me at 2585 cal range. Which are slightly higher than most of the sites, even this one puts me at 3100 cals for maintenance. This is why I have thought that increasing my calorie intake would help to keep from stressing my body additionally.

Eating More
Well, I know if there is too large of a gap your body will not be able to keep up with breaking down fat for energy and will start onto your muscle, so I've wondered if that may be happening, but I don't know at what range that happens.

Eating More
Okay guys, So here is my question for everyone. I was at 1860 cals/day for about a year, then I started to put on weight again, I moved up to 2200 cals/day and I've been sitting at the same weight since I changed(I know my counter isn't totally up to date but that's my average). M/W/F I work out about 3 hrs, and T/R/S I work out for about 1-1 1/2 hrs. In my nutrition class as well as several online calorie calcs they all say my estimated cal intake should be 2800-3K cals for maintenance. This is before my exercises which usually add up to another 1K-1.5K (2K on heavy workout days) Cals burned. Is it possible I've quit losing because the cal difference between what I eat and how much I work out is too great?

How did you discover FS?
Same here, I decided to start counting calories and did not know where to start, but I had just got an android phone, a friend suggested checking the app store, so I did, and found FS, haven't looked back since. I did try a couple others but this is just the best one out there for me. :-)

Low fat diet and depression/anxiety
Your body uses fats to create serotonin, dopamine and other feel good chemicals. Granted if your taking in carbs & protein your body will make some fat from excess, thus allowing some chemicals to be made, but mostly your suffering a deficiency if your not getting enough. I know everyone talks about their own plans, but I shoot for 20-35% calories from fats, 15-35% from proteins, and 45-65% from carbs. Just my spill on it though.
by RikuHearts (submitted 7 years ago)
My advice to ya is to shot for 45-65% of your calories from carbs, 20-35% from fats, 15-35% from proteins, and less than 25% of your daily calories from refined sugars. As you spent more time researching and seeing how your body reacts to different sources of energy you can adjust accordingly but I would recommend if your just starting out shoot for those ranges. Different sources work in the body differently, which is why a bodybuilders endurance athletes and sprinters all have different needs for what they eat. Also, wherever the calories come from make sure your always getting AT LEAST 1200 kcals a day, it will have negative effects if you aren't meeting a certain range. And I'm not going to say for sure because I'm not your doctor/physician and haven't seen your blood work, BUT i'd watch the cholesterol a little more if I were you...I saw the eggs were in large supply in your diet. There's my advice to ya. If you like it take it, if not that's cool too. :)

Hip Injuries Holding Me Back
Not sure how bad your hips hurt or when exactly, but don't forget even walking for 5 or 10 minutes at a time, several times a day also helps improve your cardiovascular system. If you can walk for 10 min. 3 times a day your still giving improving your cardio.

What plays the villain?
I've ALWAYS been a huge ninja turtle fan, and I attribute that at least partially to my love for pizza. Didn't matter what kind, where from, what time of day, or anything, I LOVE PIZZA. That's always been my big vice. Used to be able to eat a full 16" in under 2 minutes. I'm sure I could still do it, but I'm past that now. Still not to where I want to be though. Couple weeks ago we got pizza for dinner, and I had 3 slices of 14". One slice was veggie, one was meat lovers, and one was pineapple and ham. My goal was only to have 2 slices. But its still improvement. 3 slices of 14" instead of the 2 full 16" I used to eat by myself for dinner. LOL, I'm with you guys though. I had to totally cut pizza out of my diet for over a year because I just couldn't control myself. :-)

Proteiin, fat carbs?
Easiest way to figure it out, at the end of the day 45-65% of your calories should come from carb's, 15-35% should come from proteins, and 20-35% from fats. As long as your in those ranges you should be good. At least that's what my college courses have taught me about it.

What's in a name?
Riku from Kingdom Hearts 2 is my favorite character from that game. (Also a reminder my goal is to dress up as him for Halloween and I want to be ripped by then. :) ) I have a picture of Rock Lee up from Naruto cause he and Neji are also one of my favorites.

Shannav, I'd recommend working with a Doctor or Registered Dietician(sp?) that you can confirm have their degree from an accredited institution, but after a quick look at your diet and exercise calendar a couple recommendations. Track ALL of your exercise, I saw that you had a couple medical restrictions, but even things like standing or desk work burn more calories than just lying in bed. Next, eat more. I am hoping these are incomplete ratings on the calendar, but at a minimum for any diet the lowest you should consume is 1200 calories. Any diet suggesting less than this is probably not healthy and if a doctor recommends something like that, it is wise to get a second opinion from another unassociated Doctor or Registered Dietician(sp?). The minimum number of carbs you should be taking in during a day is at least 130 grams to maintain your CNS. So like I said, I hope that your recordings have missed a few things, but if not you should evaluate your diet with someone certified in that. Canajun, I agree with you 9/10 times, but this is one of those cases that if her calendar is really monitoring what she eats and what she does for exercise eating less is probably only going to cause even more problems. Although if you were just trying to give good advice, that is the best advice most of can and should give on here. Okay, there is my 2 cents. Take it or leave it, won't hurt my feelings, just thought I'd give another viewpoint on things. :-) *Note-The only reason I felt I should interject my feelings here is because I am planning to go on a vacation soon also, and want to help out so others can accomplish that goal, especially for a cruise. :)

Goodbye Mayo, I'm breaking up with you.
K8yk, I used to work and subway, and let me tell you, people really don't understand nutrition sometimes. "Hm...I'm eating subway, so I can afford a few extra calories on my sandwich" That's the thought process...The way it plays out in the store "A little more mayo please..oh no, just a touch more little squirt please....just a dab more.....(Half a bag of mayo later(which is like 3 bottles)one more dab please...Okay perfect." I could only think to myself, well, would you like some veggies or bread with that mayo? One guy I worked with made a sandwich for a guy, you couldn't touch it without getting mayo on your gloves, it would gushed out everywhere when we tried to wrap it up....needless to say, never had subway mayo since working there, and the only time I eat mayo is if I make some fry sauce. Probably the best diet "mayo killer" out there was to watch the guy try and eat that sandwich.

Runesinger, please try not to give out misinformation. Also please pull your information from validated official sources rather than random websites that may not have information to help promote peoples well being.

Confession Time...what's your secret?!?!?!?
So, these will sound dumb. But my shallow reasons for wanting to get fit. 1-I want to go on a cruise and be able to go swimming(Without having to wear a shirt, in case there is a question) or just sit out and enjoy the sun without having to worry about being fat. 2-I want to go to Disneyland with my old high school friends and have each of them struggling for breath as they try to keep up with me instead of vice versa. 3-I want my wife to actually want me because I look so good and be comfortable telling me I look good rather than having to avoid the subject. 4-I want people to be jealous of me. 5-I want to wear clothes that fit me, rather than just clothes that I can fit into. 6-Revenge against some of the girls I used to have a crush on that wouldn't have anything to do with me because of how big I was. Thank you for this post...It feels really good to admit things like this that you wouldn't normally say out loud even if its how you really feel.

Top Tips!!!!
I know this second step will sound really corny to everyone, but it works for me. 1-Counting Calories (FS is essential for me, I am able to use it to track calories better than other systems I've used) 2-A V8 a day (I know most people aren't fans of V8, but I love them. My wife enjoys the V8 splash and the smoothies. I always seem to do much better at keeping in my calorie limit when I make sure to have a few a day) 3-Exercise A LOT (find an exercise you enjoy and do it. For some people its swimming, other is weight lifting, even walking can be exponentially better for your body than nothing) Good Luck Everyone, We can do it if we just keep working at it!
