General Tsao Chicken

A healthy spin on a traditional favorite chicken and rice dish that's full of taste and flavor.

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together broth, cornstarch, sugar, soy sauce, vinegar and ginger; set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add scallions, garlic and pepper and cook 2 minutes. Add chicken and cook until browned all over, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add reserved sauce and simmer until sauce thickens and chicken is cooked through, about 3 minutes.
  4. Serve chicken and sauce over rice.
  5. Yields about 1 cup of chicken and sauce and 1/2 cup of rice per serving.

really really good recipe. it feels like your cheating on your diet thats how good it was. i replaced the sugar with splenda, wheat flour instead of corn starch (because i didnt have any) and brown rice instead of white rice and it was still amazing!!!

I also used splenda instead of sugar.

I substituted brown rice for white, which raised the calorie count a bit but added enough fiber to bring the weight watcher points down to 5 per serving with 3/4 cups rice instead of 1/2 cup.

If you didn't use the rice it wouldn't be as bad.
