Starting an experiment with Carnivore for a season for healing. I have almost reached my goal weight but body composition is too high in fat and I want to build lean muscle mass back up.

My weight has crept back up about 10 lbs. as I am fasting much less. Not worried, I could return to fasting to bring things down but would rather work to find the long-term, sustainable and healthy way forward. Generally eating 2 meals a day in around a 6-8 hour window.

I have been finding that dairy seems to spike my insulin and impact glucose numbers for days after consuming enough, and I ALWAYS crave it if I eat it. A good indicator that it needs to come off the list (DARN IT!!!)

Last week my A1C was 5.4. It was 5.4 in Dec-2019, 5.7 June-2019, 7.5 May-2019 and 12.5 Feb-2019 when I began the journey to heal my then newly diagnosed T2 Diabetes.

Highest weight lost 70 lbs. Fluctuating, but now around 60 lbs. Down 6 sizes XXL to M or 18 to 8 (at my lowest) size 10 fits comfortably.

My first day carnivore glucose:

5:13 AM 137 (very high for me, previous day was an out of control cheese fest)

11:11 AM 114 Breakfast at 11:30 AM
2:56 PM 100 Lunch at 3 PM
6:06 PM 94
8:27 PM 91

Post prandial numbers much better than normal. Watching to see how much protein I can eat without my body turning it into sugars (an issue with a T2D).

Felt good. Ate moderately to fullness but not over stuffed. I didn't have any issues with tummy or anything else. Last time I tried Carnivore I had the runs and a VERY upset digestive tract for over a week. I've since learned that is common and can run 2-3 weeks as your micro biome adjusts.

I was a T2 Diabetic. I was diagnosed 2-1-19 with an A1C of 12.5 and fasting blood sugars >500. I had NO IDEA! Started Atkins again immediately and began to research "reversing Diabetes" on youtube etc. Dr. Jason Fung has a great series of lectures, Dr. Ken Berry, 2fitdocs, and a few others are excellent resources.

I went to Keto 3-15-19 and shortly after that began fasting and intermittent fasting. Read Dr. Jason Fung's book, "The Diabetes Code," and applied everything he teaches. in 4.5 months my A1C was down to 5.7. In 10 months it is down to 5.4. My insulin resistance is improving every month. You can tell when that is happening by the 2 hours after a meal (post-prandial) glucose level. Mine is often in the 110 range. Fasting is what REALLY helps with the insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome that is the root cause of Diabetes.

I am not actively "dieting" but am continuing the Keto lifestyle with fasting. We tend toward heavy meat, light veggies, very light on Keto snacks (cookies, bread etc.). Today marks reaching my 2nd goal weight. Until my insulin is normal I will continue alternate day fasting, i.e. I eat 2 meals in a 4-6 hour window on my eating day with no limits. I eat until I'm satisfied. Eat low carb, all the protein I need and the good fats that come with the protein. Then I skip eating the next day and repeat. Occasionally, like today I will do more extended fasting (maybe 2-3 days) but do it less as I have less fat for my body to feed off of.

How long? From here it will depend on my waist measurement and visceral fat deposits as that is the best indicator. My largest measured waist was 45" but I didn't measure at my highest weight... I frankly didn't want to know. It's now 34" I am 5' 8.5" and am very short waisted so my waist has never indented very much. When I was practically anorexic in high school I was 36-26-36, so a measurement 30-32" would be great.

I was a size XXL or 18 down to M or size 10, but size 10 pants are falling off. I'm going to have to find a mail order company to buy any 8s from because I have very long legs. I guess that's a great problem to have though, not complaining ;-)

Off to achieve my next goal of somewhere between 145-150. My body will tell me when I'm done. I'm 70 lbs. down from my highest weight in around May of 2018 and feel 30 years younger.
