lose fat not muscle
If you're an athlete, it's really important to make sure you get enough protein. If you don't, you will lose muscle and your performance will suffer.

If Jennifer Lopez can lose 20 pounds, so can we
When we do it, we do it on our own. When a wealthy celebrity does it, they hire a team of private chefs, nutritionist, and trainers to help them reach their goals. And they have an incentive of contracts that may be worth millions of dollars.

Plateau BUSTED!
What online calculators and formulas often fail to take into account is that the fat you carry requires very few calories to maintain it, unlike maintenance of muscle. So if you are 100 pounds overweight, eating to a small deficit calculated from a theoretical BMR based on your weight alone (rather than your ideal body weight) may result in losing no weight or even gaining. Your BMR is more closely related to your ideal body weight than it is to your actual scale weight, if you are significantly obese.

Of course calories count. There are many strategies to create that deficit. The goal is to find one that works for you and leaves you in a place that makes maintenance easier.

Why would you eat nuts?

As to eKatherine's point, I'm sure that people who are in a position to buy SNACK FOODS that are upwards of $5/pound are most certainly healthier because they're economically better off than those who can't afford food that's that expensive.

Nobody is standing there pointing a gun at you making you eat a pound of almonds at a sitting.

If you think you can't afford to buy "snack foods" that cost $.43 a serving, you are probably basing your diet decisions and food purchases on criteria that are working against you.

For what it's worth, I don't eat "snacks", and certainly not "snack foods". I eat meals.

...are things getting heated? Lol. Look Kathy, all I was saying is that people with more money are healthier, and people with more money are more likely to buy nuts. Are you SERIOUSLY getting defensive about nuts? That...nuts! (Laughing , gotta love cheesy puns)

Is there someone here named "Kathy"?

It's true that people who have more money have access to a greater variety of healthy foods. People who have less money have to shop smarter. They have to do their own cooking if they want to eat healthy foods. They can't buy expensive vegetables like asparagus. They end up eating carrots, potatoes, cabbage, and whatever's on sale.

Rich people and poor people alike can choose to eat garbage processed foods.

If you want to stay on a food budget and eat healthy, you have to look beyond "price per pound" to value. Look at calories and nutrition. Go beyond the 80's sound bite that "fat makes you fat". You eat tiny meals and then have to eat lots of snacks. Consider eating bigger meals so you don't need all that "snack food".

Considering that you started a thread saying nobody should ever eat nuts, who's getting defensive?
