Hi all... This is my first attempt to an online accountability to a 'regimen', as I tag it. I hate the idea of being on a diet. My past regimens have been eating habit corrections. I am an avid gardener and advocate of healthy locally grown foods. I enjoy cooking and trying new concoctions. I think I am an OK cook, but mostly my claim is that I could keep you alive.
I am an old soul with strong beliefs of fermenting foods (and drink) and I am a hardcore food-gatherer - hunting berries and other wild foods, such as ferns, greens, onions, apples, chanterelle mushrooms and so on.
I am a mother of four grown children. My husband and I are semi-retired. We did close up our business about 4 years ago, but now we are free to be the property managers personally of several rental properties in New England while we are newly established snowbirds.
Pardon my long introduction. I have been a journalist, writer, editor, administrator, mentor, but my favorite things are studying cultures, travelling and I dabble is creative projects of diverse art forms.
So my weight gain has been gradual over the last 15 years. I have been lo-active and more recently more active, as my husband and I have adopted activities in our retirement, like tennis and bike touring. I don't think I am too off the mark for being 'in-shape', but I am feeling my age, with creaky joints and stiffness and I know that a weight reduction - a kind of weight correction so to speak - would bring some of my ails into submission. My weightloss goal is ambitious, but I have no time frame and more so I want to become more conscientious of what I put in my body. I believe one of my biggest bad eating habits is snacking and mindlessly eating, even in the name of good healthy foods. I need to become more aware of portion size, balance (because I might eat a pound of green beans with garlic and oil as a meal) and with the RDI number, I can be more in tune with blindly eating.
I look forward

How to determine a Goal Weight
That's seems a good quick rule that I will use. So any exercise on top of that RDI to maintain a weight will make that RDI higher. That sounds like more food. Feels like winning a lottery and that is what has be carefully monitored as you mentioned to avoid falling from these new eating healthy for life habits.

How to determine a Goal Weight
I am approaching my goal weight, but now I question what I based my goal weight on? Did I just grab a random number of pounds to lose (a nice round/fat/overweighted number?) I think I partially based my goal weight on a weight I achieved after birthing my twin daughters and when I was coralling 4 kids 24/7. (Always amazed at my supersonic reaction times and abilities during that time..). Anyways that weight was 10 pounds less than what I weighed in high school. I was at that time called wholesome and I played three sports. Probably looking back that was muscle?
So do I consider that weight, or the weight that I settled into
after having my kids and being real active and busy. Hhmmmm. I did base my goal weight on that.
So that understood, I was 30 then and I am 55 now. Maybe a little shorter -he he -
I think I have read that it is better to have more weight on the bones as we age, as long as it is not bad weight. Muscle
weight I guess.
There must be a chart - guidelines right? I want anecdotal input please..

Hello Fat Secreteers! Fellow flab fighters of the universe!
My first forum post after 11 weeks of being in the fatsecret community. Today I am officially down 20 pounds and have found this regimen I'm completely manageable.
I do have a question about artificial sweeteners. Recently I have been having some pretty painful heartburn. Right behind my sternum - comes in waves at night mostly and in the day too. No bloating or gas, just this waving radiating pain.
My son is a doctor and prescribed a acid blocker and that relieved it quite a bit. I have never had this before and since I am exercising and not eating large meals, the cause has been a curiosity to me.
I did some research only to find that the cause for this excess of acid or lack of acid imbalance is probably from the artificial sweeteners? Only recently, having gone south for the winter I found that I was needing to drink more and was grabbing diet soda more than ever. I also was drinking iced coffee in the afternoons and diet coke. My son has told me before about the risk of colas as far as acid, so I am convinced that this is the reasoning. Has anyone else experienced something like this?
Now I am being more conscientious to drink water and to get back in balance, but it will be a process I'm told.Rolling Eyes
