I'm a 30 year old health coach. I'm sick of being fat and want to start to practice what I preach. At this age I shouldn't have aches and pains after a simple workout, but I do. I don't want to be afraid that I won't fit into the airplane seat the next time I fly. Over the years I've tried everything from Weight Watchers to SlimFast and have never lost more than 20 pounds. This time I'm doing old fashioned diet and exercise! I can't remember the last time I weighed under 200 pounds. I want to lose about 113 pounds.

Cholesterol question
I agree with notelaine. Our bodies actually produce most of our cholesterol. Additionally, it isn't the overall number that matters the most. For instance, a high HDL will naturally drive your total up and it raises with exercise yet it has a protective factor against heart disease. LDL is more responsve to diet and the lower the better (more whole foods, fewer animal products is the key here)!

What do you eat when watching Biggest Loser?
I agree that this show only makes me feel guilty for sitting there watching and wish I had an exercise machine in front of the TV to use the entire show! That being said, I love the show and it is a great motivation.

Lately my go to TV snack has been baby carrots and fat free dip all precisely measured.

Also, MTV is beginning the second season of 'I Used to be Fat' in the next few weeks. It's a bit out of our age range (recent high school graduates) but it is a terrific show. In fact it's one of my favorite weight loss shows. Coincidentally, it will be on Tuesday nights right after the Biggest Loser! Anyone planning to watch?
