I've been self-flagellating constantly in recent months due to gaining 25 pounds over a 6 month "give up" period. But I think, since coming back here and getting back to self awareness about my eating habits and the pursuit of my health, that I need to really just get over it. I need to cut myself some slack. In the past 8 months, I've graduated from grad school, had a super stressful summer teaching gig, and then moved 2000 miles across the US to a giant metropolis where I knew not a soul, and have been subsequently adjusting to a new life and job (all while navigating a long distance relationship!). So while I'm not trying to make excuses (and totally acknowledge that I allowed myself to drop the ball), I think in this instance the best thing I can do is be compassionate with myself and say "you know what? Life has been tough recently, it's okay that you struggled with your eating habits. Now it's time to regroup and get back on track."
I feel better now :) Yay, catharsis!
