I'm a Scotsman living for the last 11 years in China. I used to be really fit back in my early 20's. I was climbing mountains, racing bicycles, and was in the Territorial Army so I was properly fit. Then came work and a desk job 60 hours a week for 10 years. My waist just grew steadily all the time. By 2005 I was 130kg. I moved to China and the change of lifestyle and work did allot. I dropped to 99.5kg by the end of 2006. However, as I became more adapt to the life, I started to put on weight again and for the next five years hovered around 120kg. Sometimes up 2kg or down 2 kg but fairly constant. In 2013 I decided to make an effort to get back into shape using this site.

bullet proof coffee
Biggergus has it 25% right. He's right that being overweight is the symptom not the cause, but the rest is quite incorrect.

Treating the symptom doesn't cure the problem, but if you have cured or are curing the problem then you need to attend to the symptom. Imagine someone coming into an ER room with a gunshot wound, bleeding all over the floor. The doctor looks at the person and sees small entry wound and also an exit wound and walks away saying, "The bleeding is only a symptom of the bullet. The bullet has exited so there is nothing we need to do any more. If the man dies, it is his own fault for continuing to bleed needlessly."

Don't presume to know why people are overweight. Some people might gain weight due to pre-diabetes, but it isn't the cause of everything for everyone.

People gain weight for a multitude of reasons: some people have an eating disorder due to mental illness; some people have an inability to feel full; some people drink beer heavily or have other addictions; some people gain weight due to pregnancy; for others it happens due to a sudden change in lifestyle such as being made redundant or leaving the army; some research is beginning to suggest that intestinal bacteria can have a roll to play.

There are countless more reasons. Don't presume to have a found a panacea.

bullet proof coffee
I think bullet proof coffee is a poor choice - your are drinking your calories. This is similar to the problem we get with soft drinks (ignoring the fat v carb issue for a moment). We can drink huge quantities quickly without feeling overly full and so consume lot of calories quickly. Without solids, the water quickly passes out of the stomach leaving you with an empty feeling again.

Bullet proof coffee is designed to be a very high calorie treat and also high is saturated fats. One 250ml cup of bullet proof coffee is 382 kcal compared to 104 kcal for the same volume of Coca-cola. Or put another way, one bullet proof coffee is one-and-a-half bars of Hershey's.

I prefer to eat my calories as solids and drink zero or very low calorie fluids. This makes the stomach actually feel like it has food in it - because it does actually have food in it. Instead of bullet proof coffee, I suggest you try weaning yourself onto black coffee, black tea and green tea.
