Performance: losing 3.7 lb a week

I'm 43, and just over 5'7".

Focused on training myself to eat sensibly and ideally without counting calories. I know what foods I SHOULD eat and that I should allow myself some fudging days.

Hope to maintain workout routine of 5 days of cardio, burning at least 600 calories each and weight training 3 days a week. Have been going to the gym for a number of months so this is not unreasonable.

Improvements required:
Limit alcohol consumption to just a couple of days a week. I don't need a glass of wine in order to cook dinner every night.

Need more moderation. Its not all or nothing. I can eat just one cookie. It doesn't have to be 5.

Yes, I have rescued greyhounds and volunteer with a great organization here in the Atlanta area. They are such a wonderful breed. Visit leavingtracks.org.

Alcohol while dieting.
You could also go for a rum and diet coke with a twist of lime. Can you tell I've had experience with this?

Alcohol while dieting.
In such situations, wine is probably a good option. 4 oz of white wine has 1 carb, red has 2. Unless its a low carb beer, stay away from it. Vodka, Tequila, Rum and such do not have carbs. It's the mixers that get you in trouble. We keep diet tonic on hand for an occasional gin and tonic. I also like Fresca and Jack Daniels. Most of the sugar free mixers are yucky. Regular alcohol consumption will slow down your weight loss but it makes sense to allow and plan for cocktail hour (after induction).

Drinking Coffee
I'm one of those people not affected negatively by coffee. I love my two large mugs in the morning and do not feel hungry or overstimulated following. I can even drink a cup at night and still go to sleep easily. (I don't usually drink coffee other than morning.) I guess you should just listen to your body and if you begin slipping up or not losing, study what has been going in your body and start eliminating some of these known stumbling blocks.

Vanilla shakes
I drink one in between meals if I get hungry. I'm drinking one now. 160 calories will only get you so far but the protein and fiber really helps fill you until you have time to make a healthy wholesome meal. I appreciate the vitamins and minerals because I often forget to take a multivitamin. I also appreciate that they only have 2 carbs.

Put some Cinnamon on top!
Well, based on the Pakistani study, I'm going to continue adding it to my food or coffee. It tastes great and if it helps just a little I'll do it. (Perhaps it will buy me a few more carbs?) I do have Chromium Picolinate but always forget to take pills. I'll never really know if its working because if you stick to low-carb, you are going to lose regardless. BTW, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock study showing no positive results was with Adolescent Type 1 Diabetes. Its Type 2 that can be controlled through diet, correct? I've never had blood sugar issues so I'm a little ignorant on the subject.

Cinnamon is also said to be anti-clotting and antil-microbial. Have a great day all.
