Starting up on FatSecret again Mon 11 Jan 2021. Have put on weight due to various lockdowns, Christmas and New Year. Previously approaches which have helped to lose me weight have been a Healthy Eating portion plate, FatSecret, Slimming World and keeping a Food Diary. FatSecret UK was very helpful, so I am trying again.

My meals are reasonably healthy, but I don't do well with snacks as I tend to get hooked on chocolate and crisps. I have problems with food intolerances and the only grains I can include at the moment are oats, rice and wild rice. Also have problems with lactose and soy. I'll use or adapt any healthy recipes. I tend to orient to the Mediterranean Diet, but due to my food intolerances will also look at Paleo recipes, and I tend to pick up Slimming World magazines whenever they come out.

I'm not too good on will-power, but am OK with having some treats and aiming for a bit of weight loss each week. Hopefully will be able to get some walking and other exercise going too. Anyway, see how it goes.

Migraine ideas
Hi, Thought I'd let you know that I cured my chronic migraine years ago through an elimination diet, supervised by a consultant at the Allergy Clinic of a local hospital. It's important to start with a very limited base diet - mine was lamb, pears, potato, carrot and celery. I then introduced foods one at a time, separating the food families. When all the Paleo Diet books came out later on, I realised that the problem was likely to be an extended hunter-gatherer genotype. My main problems are: gluten grains, some non-gluten grains (corn, buckwheat, sorghum, millet, quinoa), lactose in milk and dairy products. I am OK with oats, rice, wild rice and with lactose-free dairy products. Can also eat mature cheeses, which are low in lactose. Eat lots of salads, fresh fruit and vegetables, meats, fish, seafood and nuts. In addition to grains and milk, my other triggers are caffeine (e.g. coffee and tea) which are vasoconstrictive, cashew nuts (which contain a toxin) and oranges (a common trigger for people with migraine). Suggest you carry out a well-planned elimination diet and look into some Paleo ideas. I pitch my diet somewhere between Paleo and the Mediterranean diet. On Paleo sites they talk about soaking beans. I find I am perfectly OK with tinned beans in water, which are basically already processed and then soaked in the tin. Hope this is helpful. Good luck with your efforts to find better health. Just came across this, but I've just started back on FatSecret UK.
