Weight History

Start Weight
216.0 lb
Lost so far: 28.0 lb

Current Weight
188.0 lb
Performance: losing 0.3 lb a week

Goal Weight
150.0 lb
Still to go: 38.0 lb
I've done this many times before, and am fearful that I won't stick with it long enough to reach goal. I will try my very best. I will try not to beat myself up, or use "mistakes" as an excuse to go all-out. On the other hand, I've never shared with others my exact weight, nor my fears re: being able to stick with it over the long haul. Hopefully, I'll get the support and encouragement that I need here at this sight.

Motivational clothing ??
I don't do that, and for two reasons. I haven't the closet space to store clothing that don't fit, and that's not motivation enough for me to stay on-task... I have to just be committed. Too-small clothing won't do it for me. What DOES work for me is to picture me in a certain black skirt I've had for many years. I feel really great in that skirt, and when I picture me in it again it motivates me to keep on keeping on.

what do you do to keep "cravings" away?
I give in and have whatever I'm craving, then get back in the saddle... I don't have the WHOLE cake or gallon of ice cream or whatever. I have a normal serving, then, as I said, I get right back on Program.

After a week and a half...I cheat!
I have tried several times to follow Adkins or another like it, and I don't last a whole day. it just doesnt' agree with my body. I overcame the difficulty of Atkins by finally realizing that it's not natural for the human body. We need some of all the food groups in order to maintain a balance. I also came to realize that my objective in trying to lose weight was to become healthy. So.. everything is healthy, in moderation, even fats and sugar. I've come to the conclusion that the only thing that really works for me over the long haul is a healthy, balanced food plan. I don't like the word "diet" because I feel it's defeating just to hear the word. When I hear "diet" I get stressed, and figure I'm gonna be restricted. The final word for me: everything, but in moderation. Further, fill up on fruits and vegetables. They are quite yummy. I make lots of soups. They're good for me, and are very filling and satisfying.

A family thing
I think that family and weight issues are absolutely the hardest. After all, that's where we learned to self-destruct with food, isn't it?

I think that this is an issue where you absolutely MUST be firm, and set your boundries. Your family (no one's family) will not be comfortable with the change you've chosen to make regarding your food, and eating. (your not eating unhealthy foods makes them look bad) However, when we go on WW what we're doing is un-learning self-destructive eating habits that we learned at mother's knee, and replacing those negative behaviors with healthy, life-affirming ones. THAT is your goal. Your goal is not to please your family, or to alleviate their discomfort with the changes in your life.

You are not hurting them by becoming healthy. Nor is it your responsibility to make them feel good about what you do, or do not, eat. Don't buy into the guilt trip.

This is not an easy thing to deal with, but if you suceed in staying legal you MUST be firm in your boundries with food and not eating in-volume at family gatherings. I have the same kind of family, and yes, some of my family have said I think I'm too good to eat with them now. Well, I can't self-destruct just because me being healthy makes them uncomfortable... I'm afraid it comes down to that.

Best of luck, and remember, you're worth having a healthy body! I feel the utmost compassion for you in dealing with your very selfish family.
