I done cheated. Again. I'm throwing a small party this weekend as a belated house warming party, so I purchased some potato chips and other snack items for the party... and am eating them now *facepalm*. What I need to do is have three "good" days. If I eat a lower carb paleo diet for that long, then the cravings will go away and I won't feel the need to eat potato chips (my kryptonite). I'm going to fast tomorrow, which should help, as well as I will be away from home when I eat today so I will not be surrounded by my chips. If I can make it through Wednesday and Thursday intact, I think that will help at least until the party.

I tried out a sauna for the first time yesterday, and I really liked it! It took me a while to start sweating (about 10 min or so, and 15 before I really started sweating), so next time I will do a quick strength workout beforehand to warm up my muscles and get the sweating process started sooner. I never got to the point where I was dripping sweat, but it was beading up pretty good, and I did feel much better afterward! I wanted to see how I handled being in a sauna before I worked out beforehand though. There is definitely such a thing as too much too quickly!

On a kind of sad note, I finally confirmed my gluten intolerance a couple of days ago. There was a birthday party at my dad's parent's house and they had cake. It occurred to me that I'd never actually tested my gluten intolerance. I just knew that once I went gluten free, all of my cramps and bloating went away. So I had a piece of the cake. It was so rich (one of the store bought ones) that I couldn't finish more than 1/3 of it, and I immediately started cramping. Overall, the cramping wasn't as bad as it was before I came off of gluten, but I could tell that if I kept eating gluten like that, I would really start hurting! Bummer!

So, my first experiment with Intermittent Fasting (IF) went pretty well, and I was surprised by the fact that I felt mildly hungry all day instead of hungry-okay-hungry. I actually found it relatively easy to fast for breakfast and lunch, and even took my new found time to go for a nice long walk! When I got home, I had a sensible low carb dinner of taco salad with ground pastured organic beef, romaine lettuce, fajita vegetables and organic salsa (I had two bowls because it was SO GOOD). I finished the meal with a small orange, which was the perfect amount of sweet for dessert.

Then, weirdness happened. First of all, I was hungry when bedtime approached, and I should have eaten something. Since I've been eating low carb for a while now (since my body doesn't handle carbs well - this has been proven through my genetics too), I've adapted my body to burn fat as fuel. I think this helped a lot when it came to not being hungry while fasting, and will help boost my results. However, since I went to bed hungry, my body pulled energy from my fat stores and I could NOT seem to fall asleep. So, after a rocky night, I'm back to eating as usual!

I'm trying out IF, and I know it doesn't work well for everyone, and there isn't a set formula, but the first week is always the hardest! I'm going to try fasting 1 day a week and take measurements that morning (no weight though, since I'm going to do strength workouts and that makes me bulk up and gain weight). And then, after 4 weeks, I'm going to see if fasting made any difference at all. Also, next week, I'm going to try to have two meals in the evening that I fast. I hope that by having a second meal right before bed (probably with some carbs thrown in there to help me sleep), I won't be wide awake all night like I was last night.

Hey everyone! Long time, no update! I've been keeping with my new primal diet (for the most part), but I've just recently started working out again (over the past two weeks), and I realized that I need to be better logging my food intake. I've been addicted to Kettle Brand Jalapeno flavored chips lately (and spicy foods in general - weird), and I know I need to be cutting back. I'm going to be aiming for roughly 1850 calories a day, with around 100g carbs and 90g of protein (I want to get into the habit of not eating too much protein, since eating more than 90g a day when you're pregnant can harm your baby). Not that I'm trying to get pregnant - that can seriously wait for another few years thank you. But being healthy in general means that you're more fertile, so I want to make sure that as I get healthy, I'm forming good habits in case something goes wrong and I get pregnant before planned.

Things are good for me, and I'm probably not going to update this journal much, but I wanted to pop in and mention that I'm doing well!
