I took a little break from working out the last few days. I went for a walk with my boyfriend the other day but at a pretty lazy pace.
I just got off the treadmill though and realized that if I pump my arms in different directions while I walk I can work different muscles in my arms! I usually do intervals of jogging/running and walking but I think I started off a little too fast and I started to cramp up so I started walking at a very brisk pace for the last half of my work out and near the end I started pumping my arms. What I like is that not only does it burn extra calories, but I can pump them at one angle until I my muscles can't take anymore, and the pump them at another angle until those muscles get too tired, and then switch to something else, so I am constantly working different muscles. I'm thinking of working this into my intervals. I'll walk and jog as normal, but be sure to pump my arms during the walking intervals. It's just a little change, but it's nice to be able to boost my work out some how!

It is amazing what an effect a change in attitude can have:
1: This morning, my mom made pancakes for breakfast to celebrate Father's Day. I really wanted pancakes, but at 3 points a piece, excluding any butter or syrup, it was just too much. At first I was going to eat cereal while they enjoyed their pancakes. But then I found a recipe for low point pancakes made with oatmeal and tried those. They were very tasty, and I got to enjoy it with my family.
2: I felt lazy sitting around watching TV. I was getting really sluggish but I really wanted to do something active today even though I can't work out with my friend. So I popped in a belly dancing work out DVD and did that for 50 minutes.
3: I picked up a small carton of B&J's Half Baked low fat frozen yogurt yesterday, measured out a serving into a bowl and it was amazing. Today, I ate straight out of the carton, and actually put it back in the freezer without eating it all.

So it's only been 6 days that I've been back on my diet and I have to say, I feel amazing! I'm already down almost 6lbs (most of which I'm sure is water weight though) and I've been exercising regularly.
I've realized that the key to staying satisfied is to keep eating a little bit all day. I know everyone says that's the best way to do it, and I thought I was doing that before. But I realized that I was actually eating HUGE meals, then waiting til I was starving again to eat something REAL. Now I usually eat a whole grain cereal with low fat milk for breakfast around 7. I start getting a bit hungry around 9:30 so I eat a healthy snack bar that keeps me satisfied til lunch around noon. Instead of running to the grocery store next to my work for a huge serving of mac and cheese from the deli, I grab a Smart Ones or Lean Cuisine meal from the freezer section. I have another frozen meal for dinner around 5 or 6. I also know that I tend to crave sweet or salty after a meal, so I stocked up on 100 calorie packs of cookies and party mix. I feel wonderful!
