LadiRosselott's Journal, 28 January 2008

OK, this was the smallest weight loss, and that's discouraging because I feel I've done so well, but at least it's a loss, yesterday the scale didn't move. I keep reading about how everybody on Phase 1 has this amazing 8 to 15 lb weight loss in 2 weeks, and I cant' help but wonder what am I doing wrong? I refuse to starve myself! I'm Frustrated!! 39.3% fat, so even that is down a bit, so I guess it's all good news, everything's down, I just want to move faster!!!!!
169.0 lb Lost so far: 2.0 lb.    Still to go: 15.0 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

Don't get frustrated! You are doing fine. I have yet to meet any one who had that much of weight loss and kept it off. Keep up the good work and you will see that it will pay off in the end.

My favorite phrase is slow and steady wins the race. I didn't have that 8-15 pound weight loss either. I was shocked to read other people's diet calendar and see 700 calorie days- I am trying really hard to stick around 1200 or less and still lose.I think most diets say that's a safe healthy place to be. I've upped my veggie portions. I am losing slow for sure- 10 pounds in 3 1/2 weeks but the scale is going down-I have no idea what my current body fat is- how do you check your body fat. Sometimes salt and water intake makes a big difference to the scale too. keep smiling- it will come off!

I agree with MrsJ & Sharon. I believe Sharon's motto of "slow and steady wins the race." I know for me that I won't be able to stick with a "diet" and looking for rapid weight loss, but rather a new way of eating that my husband & I can live & stick with for the long haul. I think you are doing super!

Thanks. I know, I know :)I know the slower it comes off the more likely to stay off, in fact I was just telling someone else this yesterday, guess I had just expected more of a loss today and had my hopes up, shouldn't do that to myself. I will have to try harder on my workout today! Sharon - about the body fat, I bought a BMI scale a few years ago. I think it's pretty accurate. Tanita is who makes it, but there are other brands available. If you're going to get one, do your research first, some are better than others. It's an eye opener for sure - for instance, I'm overweight, I know that, but my body fat puts me in the obese category. Such a bad word, but it makes you realize you need to do something :O)

Oh my! I've never been on one of those scales. I can just hear what it would have to say to me now........maybe I'll wait and get one when it will talk nice to me!

When I did SBD I only lost 3 lbs in Phase 1. Don't worry. At least you're losing. Keep it up!

I know what you mean. I was looking for that 8-15 lb. loss after phase 1 too but I only lost 4, and I'm happy with that. Hang in there.

Thanks guys, though I'm starting to wonder, if I'm not seeing huge weight loss, why the heck am I forbidding bread and such. I'll give it another day or two and see how I feel, but I might just start adding the healthy grains back in, I sure do miss them. I actually have been doing South Beach for over 2 weeks, and I only cheated twice through it all, but I made myself start over each time, so technically I am past phase 1, but since starting over, just on day 5 or so. We'll see.

Well, different story here but I know of at least 3 people counting me who all lost in the 13 pound range in the first 14 days on SB phase 1 and have steady progress ever since. We all agree that there was 100 percent commitment, zero cheating, plenty of water and dedication. We not only followed the plan 100% but also introduced the carbs, even the good ones slowly! I know people say we gain the weight back, but we followed the plan to a "t" and we also had the exact weight loss the book describes. I would be more than happy to take a look at your food diary and see if I can see anything. I wish you all the best but also dont want to sound like a downer, I just want you to know that the weight loss the book speaks of is indeed do-able.

Sorry, but if you cheated at all, then it isn't really 14 days unless you go 14 days without a cheat at all. So if you're going to say you didn't achieve what the book says in 14 days, you need to do what the book says for 14 days, right?

I'm 59 yrs old and hypothyroid (so I lose slower than the average person..MUCH slower) I was 100% true on phase 1 and I lost 10.5 pounds. You can see it on my weight history when I started South Beach phase one. I tried the You on a diet and gained weight. I love South Beach and I continued to lose steady on phase to the 1-2 lbs a week like the book says for phase 2. However the recenet weigh ins for this week is the first time my weight chart went upward since starting SB.. and thats due to changes in my medicines. It will clear up real soon and I'll be heading downward again.

ImLuuvd, I would definitely like to take you up on that - to look at my food diary and tell me what I'm doing wrong :) That would be awesome and much appreciated if you're still up to it!

Personally, when I did SBD I followed it exactly and I didn't see big weight loss changes. I totally stalled in week one of Phase 2 even though I only added 1 fruit OR 1 grain per day. Some people are more metabolically resistant to weight loss, so don't beat yourself up. It doesn't mean you are doing anything wrong. For whatever reason (medication, age, hormones, genetics) you just have to be more patient than other people. It will come off, though. Hang in there.

I just looked at your food diary and I know the plan says not to count carbs, but it does say to use the glyemic index and to chose the better carbs for our bodies. Your carb counts are very high, higher than most food journals I've looked at. My guess is that you could up your good carbs, that doesn't mean meat and cheese and eggs, it means veggies. Do you like veggies? Half of your plate should be veggies (I believe thats true for everyone, its just what my doc told me though). Also I think the glyecmic index would greatly benefit you. Here's teh link to read about what it is and then it will show you the foods lower on the glycemic index. You want the lowest glycemic foods. They are the best choices for you now. You'll see how much higher beans are compared to cabbage or squash. Carrots are double the other veggies like green beans or asparagus, squash, broccoli, or cauliflower. Anyway, take a look at this and I bet this is something that can really help you! http://www.southbeach-diet-plan.com/gi_index.htm
