sliverhides's Journal, 09 September 2016

I was talking to my wife and son last night at dinner. I was adamant I was obese they were sure at most I was overweight. So I grabbed my phone and found a BMI calculator. At 174 pounds they were right, I am "normal weight" but just barely (175 is overweight).

My point is not to brag that I am normal. It is to show how easy it is to get warped into something we are not.

Also, BMI sucks. 175 is "max" normal, but 160 is only two BMI points away from "overweight!" How can that be true? But I got a new goal 160 so I have some BMI cushion.
174.0 lb Lost so far: 12.0 lb.    Still to go: 4.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

It's funny how we get wrapped up in semantics. The word obese had picked up lots of scary and negative connotations. The bmi is simply a tool to draw lines in what weight is considered a health range. So at some point you are going to be one or two pounds away from a different category. Maybe we should Change the wording to bony, normal, cushy and super cushy.

Super cushy here. Lol looking forward to cushy and less cushy. I hate the word obese but it is what I am. I let myself get this way and now I am taking control to better health. Best of luck to all of us.
