I was so disappointed today! Sunday I put fondant on five tiers of cake dummies for one of my competition cakes. I used purple. I had gotten coloring at Hobby Lobby and they changed their brand. I have very little room in my house so had them on a temporary table by my door, with the blinds open. The sun hit them and the all faded to a blue gray. Tomorrow I have to go get different coloring that hopefully won't fade, and remake all the fondant and recover the tiers. I'm already behind! But praise God, cause I was having some trouble with that fondant being dry and not entirely happy with the cover as it was not all that smooth. Now I can make some changes to that recipe and hopefully get a smoother finish, and maybe a better color. I am running some color tests before I recover as it will be in fluorescent lights at the show which can also fade colors. If my tests fail I will have to choose another color and I don't really want to do that. I will do what I have to though! Stress is high from now until I finish all my entries!

Weight is actually up a bit, probably because of the increased salt. But the cramps are significantly reduced.

"I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; my God; in Him will I trust" Psalm 91:2. In my weight loss journey, my health, my cakes, and my work, I trust Him and I see the blessings of that every day! He protects me and makes my challenges much smoother than they used to be before I could trust Him.

Good luck! I have never found purple food coloring that didn't turn blue in the sunlight. yOu have to keep you cake covered during transit and set them up in the shade.

Did you try to get purple by mixing red and blue? I would think that you can control the hue like that.

Rhontique, I haven't worked with purple in fondant before so thought it might be ok and have seen many competition cakes with purple, but I've heard tons of complaints about the new colors at Hobby Lobby. Americolor is not supposed to fade, so getting some today. It will be in sunlight and fluorescent lights for three days at competition so its find the right coloring or change color. Day, Even the Red can fade in sun if its the wrong brand, but I had to make probably 10-15 pounds just for this one cake and its difficult to get the color right mixing two colors. I do have the right brand for Red, and made another cake in Pink and Red that has not faded. I think it was mostly this brand. Tamarah, God is my everything. That wasn't always so, even though I was saved, but He is now and everything in life is better Losinit, I wasn't good in science either, and now wish I knew more as it relates to baking. I aced food too, that's why I'm here! lol. Love me my sweets but can't eat the sugar any more!
